St Leonards-on-Sea
St Leonards-on-Sea (commonly known as St Leonards) is a town and seaside resort in the Borough of Hastings in East Sussex, England. It has been part of the borough since the late 19th century and lies to the west of central Hastings. The original part of the settlement was laid out in the early 19th century as a new town: a place of elegant houses designed for the well-off; it also included a central public garden, a hotel, an archery, assembly rooms and a church. Today's St Leonards has extended well beyond that original design, although the original town still exists within it. History The land that is now St Leonards was once owned by the Levett family, an ancient Sussex gentry family of Norman origin who owned the adjacent manor of Hollington, and subsequently by their descendants, the Eversfields, who rose to prominence from their iron foundries and widespread property holdings during Tudor times. Eversfields served as sheriffs of Surrey and Sussex in the 16th and 17th cen ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Every year he creates an elaborate puppet show for the children, which he fondly imagines they enjoy (though they actually hate it) * Phyllis, Bernard's lush of a wife, whom Bernard struggles to support * Neville, Phyllis's brother, always busy fiddling with anything mechanical out in his shed * Belinda, who endures a stale marriage to Neville, resorting to flapping about the house and constantly dressing the Christmas tree * Eddie, a lacklustre and lazy ... ''Day To Remember'' is a British Christmas television play first transmitted 9.45pm Sunday 21 December 1986 on Channel 4 from Television South Production in association with the ''Theatre of Comedy Entertainment''. Written by Jack Rosenthal it stars George Cole and Rosemary Leach. The pain and terror of dementia portrayed is contained and balanced by the comic presentation that beset the old. When Jack Rosenthal finally wrote his memoirs, ''An Autobiography in Six Acts'', he did so in the form of a screenplay, including a section from ''Day To Remember''; it was published by Robson Books in 2006. Plot The play is set around the festive period, a season of peace and goodwill, a time for miracles. Wally ( George Cole) had suffered a stroke some years back.
