The Forgiven (2017 Film)
''The Forgiven'' is a 2017 South African drama film directed by Roland Joffé starring Forest Whitaker, Eric Bana and Jeff Gum. Joffé co-wrote the script with Michael Ashton on the basis of the play ''The Archbishop and the Antichrist'' by Michael Ashton, which tells a story involving Archbishop Desmond Tutu's search for answers during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and his meetings with the fictional character Piet Blomfeld. Plot After the end of apartheid, Archbishop Desmond Tutu is running the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and visits Cape Town's Pollsmoor Maximum Security Prison to meet with Piet Blomfeld, an ex-security police officer and Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging member, to assess his candidacy for amnesty. Roland Joffé
Roland Joffé (born 17 November 1945) is a British director and producer of film and television, known for the Academy Award-winning films ''The Killing Fields'' and '' The Mission''. He began his career in television, his early credits including episodes of ''Coronation Street'' and an adaptation of ''The Stars Look Down'' for Granada. He gained a reputation for hard-hitting political stories with the series '' Bill Brand'' and factual dramas for ''Play for Today''. Education Joffé was educated at two independent schools: the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in London, and Carmel College in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, which was Europe's only Jewish boarding school, until it closed in 1997. Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books.
