''The Csardas King'' (German: ''Der Czardas-König'') is a 1958 West German musical film directed by Harald Philipp and starring Gerhard Riedmann, Rudolf Schock and Elma Karlowa.Bock & Bergfelder p.61 It is a biopic of the life of the Hungarian operetta composer Emmerich Kalman. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Helmut Nentwig and Heinrich Weidemann. It was shot at the Spandau Studios in Berlin and on location in Budapest. It was made in Eastmancolor. A biographical film or biopic () is a film that dramatizes the life of a non-fictional or historically-based person or people. Such films show the life of a historical person and the central character's real name is used. They differ from docudrama films and historical drama films in that they attempt to comprehensively tell a single person's life story or at least the most historically important years of their lives. Hubert Von Meyerinck
Hubert "Hubsi" von Meyerinck (23 August 1896 – 13 May 1971) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 280 films between 1921 and 1970. Biography Meyerinck was born in Potsdam, Brandenburg, the son of Friedrich von Meyerinck (1858–1928), Hauptmann (Captain) in the Prussian Army. He grew up at his family's estates in the Province of Posen and attended the gymnasium secondary school in Godeberg. Having passed his Abitur exams, he was called up for military service as a cadet in World War I, but soon was dismissed due to a pulmonary disease. In 1917 he gave his debut as a theatre actor at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin and from 1918 to 1920 continued his career at the Hamburg Kammerspiele. Back in Berlin he performed in avant-garde plays by Carl Sternheim, as well as in several revue entertainments and kabarett venues. Marina Orschel (born July 14, 1937) is a former beauty queen and actress. In 1956 she won Miss Germany and was 1st runner-up in the Miss Universe contest. At first her measurements were announced as 36-22-34 inches (91-56-86 cm), but she handed a measuring tape to Miss England and corrected them to 40-27-34 inches (102–69–86 cm). Sabine Bethmann
Sabine Bethmann (25 October 1929 – 8 November 2021) was a German film and television actress. Biography Bethmann was born in Tilsit, East Prussia on 25 October 1929. She first appeared in the 1956 movie ''Waldwinter'' and became popular by her Fritz Lang movies like '' The Tiger of Eschnapur'' and '' The Indian Tomb''. Bethmann abandoned her career in 1968 and appeared only in a few TV productions afterwards. She was originally cast for the role of Varinia in ''Spartacus'' but only lasted two days. During that time, Anthony Mann resigned as director after a falling-out with Kirk Douglas and was succeeded by Stanley Kubrick who demanded a more experienced actress for the role. Bethmann was replaced by Jean Simmons. Bethmann died on 8 November 2021, at the age of 92.
