The Counterfeiters (2010 Film)
''The Counterfeiters'' (french: Les Faux-monnayeurs) is a 2010 television film based on the 1925 novel '' The Counterfeiters'' by André Gide. The two-hour film was directed by Benoît Jacquot and stars Melvil Poupaud as Edouard X., Maxime Berger as Olivier, and Dolores Chaplin as Lady Lilian Griffith. Originally Jacquot, who is also the screenwriter, had planned this project as a 180-minute two-parter, but this was later reduced to a 120-minute telefilm. The film premiered on France 2 on January 5, 2011. In March 2012, it was released on region 2 DVD by Optimale. Benoît Jacquot
Benoît Jacquot (; born 5 February 1947) is a French film director and screenwriter who has had a varied career in European cinema. Life and career Born in Paris, Jacquot began his career as assistant director of Marguerite Duras films, including '' Nathalie Granger'', ''India Song'', and also actor in the 1973 short film ''La Sœur du cadre''. He turned to writing and directing with the 1975 film ''The Musician Killer'', which starred Anna Karina. He has directed over forty films, the most notable of which to American audiences are '' La Désenchantée'' (1990), starring Judith Godrèche, and '' A Single Girl'' (1995), starring Virginie Ledoyen. Alfred Jarry (; 8 September 1873 – 1 November 1907) was a French symbolist writer who is best known for his play ''Ubu Roi'' (1896). He also coined the term and philosophical concept of 'pataphysics. Hervé Pierre (born 22 April 1955) is a French actor and theatre director. He joined the Comédie-Française in 2007 and became a member in 2011. On 14 June 2009, Pierre was awarded the title of Best French Actor by critics.
