The Cloud Girls
The Cloud Girls are comedians Jennifer Carnovale and Madeleine Culp, also known as carnovale & culp. They regularly perform at comedy festivals such as the Melbourne Fringe Festival and at stand-up rooms in Sydney and Melbourne. Jennifer and Madeleine also appear on Australian youth radio station Triple J where they present a segment during Sam Simmons (comedian), Sam Simmons' weekend breakfast program and were in ABC Television (Australian TV network), ABC Comedy's "The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote, The Urban Monkey". History Jennifer and Madeleine met in their senior years at an arts high school and it was soon decided that their comedy styles work well together. Comedian
A comedian or comic is a person who seeks to entertain an audience by making them laugh. This might be through jokes or amusing situations, or acting foolish (as in slapstick), or employing prop comedy. A comedian who addresses an audience directly is called a stand-up comedian. Melbourne Fringe Festival
The Melbourne Fringe Festival is an annual independent arts festival in Melbourne, Australia, usually over three weeks from late September to early October. Held since 1982, the Festival includes a wide variety of art forms, including theatre, comedy, music, performance art, design, film, cabaret, digital art, and circus. Over 300 shows are held at over 100 venues from bars, clubs and independent theatres to high-profile locations. The festival is open-access and artists produce shows independently. Melbourne Fringe also funds and produces its own free events. History The Fringe Arts Network was formed in 1982, aiming to raise public and government awareness of alternative arts in Melbourne. Triple J
Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Sam Simmons (comedian)
Sam Simmons (born 19 March 1976) is an Australian comedian and radio and TV presenter. Career Simmons has appeared on '' Conan'', ''8 Out of 10 Cats'', ''Room 101'', '' Adam DeVine's House Party'' and is currently developing his own sitcom in the UK. Network appearances include NBC, BBC, Channel 4, ABC, and all other Australian networks. Previously, he was a regular host on Triple J as well as jtv interviewing bands, he developed his style of non-sequitur and surrealist non-humour. This led to his first television show, ''The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote'', in 2009. In 2012, Simmons followed up with a sketch-style TV series ''Problems'', with a tone more similar to that of his surrealist stand-up shows. ABC Television (Australian TV Network)
ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The Urban Monkey With Murray Foote
''The Urban Monkey with Murray Foote'' is an Australian television comedy series on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation starring Sam Simmons and Janis McGavin as Lee-Anne. The program premiered on 14 September 2009 on ABC2 at 8:55pm and then repeated on ABC1 from 2 October 2009 at 11:10pm. Episodes are five minutes long. The series is presented in mockumentary style and draws parallels between human and animal worlds. The character Murray Foote is an animal warrior, conservationist, scientist, recording artist, good bloke, and ladies man. The promotional blurb states that the series was created in 1987, then lost, and then rediscovered recently in a garage in suburban Melbourne. Adelaide Fringe Festival
The Adelaide Fringe, formerly Adelaide Fringe Festival, is the world's second-largest annual arts festival (after the Edinburgh Festival Fringe), held in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. Between mid-February and mid-March each year, it features more than 7,000 artists from around Australia and the world. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the second-largest international comedy festival in the world. Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. The Melbourne Town Hall has served as the festival hub, but performances are held in many venues throughout the city. Sydney Comedy Festival
The Sydney Comedy Festival is an annual comedy festival held in Sydney. Launched in 2005 as The Cracker Sydney Comedy Festival at a number of inner city venues, the Festival has grown quickly and now attracts 111,000 patrons every year at venues all across Sydney. The Sydney Comedy Awards were introduced in 2008, to celebrate excellence in the Sydney Comedy Festival. In 2013, the festival introduced The Sydney Comedy Festival showcase tour, bringing bits of the festival to towns all over Australia. 2020 saw the festival go on hiatus.
