The Citadel Bulldogs football program represents The Citadel in the NCAA Division I FCS, NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Bulldogs play in the Southern Conference, as they have since 1936. The Bulldogs are coached by Brent Thompson (American football), Brent Thompson, who was hired on January 19, 2016, to replace Mike Houston (American football), Mike Houston, who became the head football coach of James Madison Dukes football, James Madison University on January 18, 2016. Mike Capaccio
Mike Capaccio is an American athletics administrator, currently serving as athletic director of The Citadel Bulldogs in Charleston, South Carolina. He was named to that position in 2018. He previously served as athletic director at UNC Wilmington for two years, and as CEO of the Brunswick Community College Foundation. Playing career Capaccio played basketball at Madison College for two years before completing his eligibility at the University of Mary. He was known as an excellent rebounder, and led the NAIA in rebounding his senior year, a mark that remains among the top ten season performances in the Mary record book through 2020 and earning a Madison Hall of Fame induction in 1993. Coaching career Following his graduation from the University of Mary, Capaccio became an assistant coach with McHenry College. George Rogers (American Football Coach)
George Calvin Rogers Sr. (October 9, 1889 – October 22, 1964) was an American football and baseball coach. He was the sixth head football coach at The Citadel, serving for four seasons, from 1913 to 1915 and again in 1919, compiling a record of 14–16–3. He also served as head baseball coach in 1914 and 1915 and resumed the position from 1921 through 1924. Rogers graduated from The Citadel in 1910, serving as team captain in football, baseball and track, and earning a total of 12 varsity letters. He also coached at the Georgia Military Academy and at high schools in Charleston.
