The Chopping Block
''The Chopping Block'' is an Australian reality television series which began airing on the Nine Network on 6 February 2008. Produced by Granada Productions, it was hosted by chef Matt Moran. Catriona Rowntree co-hosted the show with Moran in its first season. It ran for two series of 8 episodes each. Format Each week two Melbourne and Sydney restaurants were reviewed by a secret critic (ABC Radio National broadcaster and food critic Alan Saunders) and given A$5,000. With assistance from restaurateur Matt Moran, they were given 72 hours to use that money to overhaul their menu, service and décor in an effort to win both his and the critics' approval. Episodes Season 1 Season 2 Ratings The first episode of ''The Chopping Block'' had a disappointing debut, with only 718,000 viewers nationally, a low figure for its 7:30–8:30 timeslot. Matt Moran
Matthew Moran (born 15 May 1969) is an Australian chef and restaurateur also known for being a guest on various TV cooking shows. Early life Moran was raised on a dairy farm at Badgerys Creek, west of Sydney, before moving to the outer-western suburb of Seven Hills. At age 15, Moran left Grantham High School to start a career as a chef. While still at school, he worked on weekends in the kitchen of the Parramatta RSL Club. He commenced his apprenticeship at La Belle Helene Restaurant, Roseville, on Sydney's North Shore, and it was here that Moran practiced the art of classical French cooking. Business In 1991 Moran, launched his first restaurant - The Paddington Inn Bistro. The successful partnership led them to open their second restaurant Moran's Restaurant and Café in 1995 which was also well received on the food scene. Marco Pierre White (born 11 December 1961) is a British chef, restaurateur, and television personality. Alan John Saunders (22 July 1954 – 15 June 2012) was a prominent British philosopher, food writer, novelist and radio broadcaster in Australia. Early life and academic career Saunders was born in London and raised in Harringay, North London. His father, Sydney Saunders, was a taxi driver and his mother, Edith, was a secretary in a school. Saunders' interest in gastronomy initially came about through childhood holidays abroad with his parents, who were adventurous eaters. He gained a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy at the University of Leicester and a Bachelor of Science from the London School of Economics, and was a Frances A.
