The Channel 4 Daily
''The Channel Four Daily'' (or ''Channel 4 Daily'') is a breakfast television news magazine, which was produced by Independent Television News, in collaboration with other independent production companies for Channel 4. The programme was Channel 4's first breakfast programme, broadcasting between 6am (6.30am from April 1990) and 9.25am each weekday morning. The first edition of the programme was broadcast on 3 April 1989, with the last edition being broadcast on 25 September 1992. ''The Channel Four Daily'' failed to gain enough viewers and was replaced with ''The Big Breakfast'' from Monday, 28 September 1992. Format Conceived as a television newspaper, the content was a mix of short news bulletins and non-news segments. The flagship bulletin ''World News'' was co-presented from three continents. John Richard Whiteley (28 December 1943 – 26 June 2005) was an English presenter, and journalist, best known for his twenty-three years as host of the game show ''Countdown''. ''Countdown'' was the launch programme for Channel 4 at 4:45 pm on 2 November 1982, and Whiteley was the first person to be seen on the channel (not counting a programme montage). Despite his intelligence, Whiteley enjoyed projecting the image of an absent-minded eccentric. His trademarks were his jolly, avuncular manner, fondness for puns, and his bold, sometimes garish wardrobe. Paddy Haycocks is an experienced broadcaster and producer who has worked in the British media for over 25 years. Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on 9 April 1950 his first brush with fame came when he was appearing on the ''Streetwise'' section of the ill-fated Channel Four Daily. Haycocks regularly interviewed a lawyer who represented Ronnie Kray. The sartorially traditional Kray disapproved of Haycock's open-necked presenting style and sent him a beautiful silk tie, which Haycocks naturally wore at the first opportunity. Damian Howard Green (born 17 January 1956) is a British politician who served as First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office from June to December 2017 in the Second May government. David Bobin
David Bobin (November 1945 – 24 May 2017) was an English sports journalist mainly known for his work on television. Biography Bobin was educated at Abingdon School from 1957 to 1962 and was a keen rower. He began his career as a newspaper journalist in Oxford and also worked for BBC Radio Oxford during the 1960s before graduating to television with Southern Television in 1975. He continued to appear on ITV with Southern's successor franchises Television South and Meridian Broadcasting. Bobin also served as anchor on the former's news programme '' Coast to Coast''.
