The Century Girl
''The Century Girl'' is a musical comedy revue with music by Victor Herbert and Irving Berlin, and lyrics by Henry Blossom and Berlin. It opened November 6, 1916, at the Century Theatre on Broadway theatre, Broadway and ran until April 28, 1917, totaling 200 performances. Rather than having a cohesive plot, the show was a mixture of musical and vaudeville performances. Production Charles Dillingham and Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. produced the show. Staging was by Edward Royce, Leon Errol, and Ned Wayburn, with set design by Joseph Urban. Gertrude Hoffmann (dancer), Max Hoffman directed the orchestra. The show had a runtime of over four hours. On its opening night, the show began at 8:25pm and ended at 12:58am. This was actually an improvement from the show's time prior to its premiere. Henry Blossom
Henry Martyn Blossom (May 10, 1866 – March 23, 1919) was an American playwright and lyricist. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he teamed with Victor Herbert on several popular operettas. His first Broadway musical project was ''The Yankee Consul'' (1904) for composer Alfred G. Robyn, after which he primarily wrote for Herbert, including ''Mlle. Modiste'' (1905), ''The Red Mill'' (1906), ''Baron Trenck'' (1911), '' The Only Girl'' (1914), ''The Princess Pat'' (1915), '' Eileen'' (1917), and '' Kiss Me Again'' (film version of ''Mlle. Modiste'', 1931). He also wrote "When Uncle Sam is Ruler of the Sea" with Victor Herbert in 1916, "It's Not the Uniform That Makes the Man" with A. Baldwin Sloane in 1917 and "I Want to Go Back to the War" with Percival Knight (music was by Raymond Hubbell) in 1919. Blossom was also involved with several shows that failed to reach Broadway. Hazel Dawn
Hazel Dawn (born Henrietta Hazel Tout; March 23, 1890 – August 28, 1988) was an American stage, film and television actress, and violinist. She was born to a Mormon family in Utah, and studied music in Europe where her father was a missionary. Dawn rose to fame as a stage actress in Ivan Caryll's 1911 Broadway production of '' The Pink Lady'', which ran for over 300 performances and earned Dawn the eponymous nickname. She performed extensively on Broadway and began work in film in 1914, appearing in a total of 13 feature films. Dawn died at age 98 in New York City. Early life Dawn was born Henrietta Hazel Tout in Ogden, Utah, in 1890. She went to Wales with her family at the age of eight when her father served as a Mormon missionary there. Barbara Fritchie
Barbara Fritchie (née Hauer; December 3, 1766 – December 18, 1862), also known as Barbara Frietchie, and sometimes spelled Frietschie, was a Unionist during the Civil War. She became part of American folklore in part from a popular poem by John Greenleaf Whittier. Life and career Fritchie was born Barbara Hauer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and married John Casper Fritchie, a glove maker, on May 6, 1806. Lilyan Tashman (October 23, 1896 – March 21, 1934) was an American actress. Tashman was best known for her supporting roles as tongue-in-cheek villainesses or playing the vindictive "other woman".
