The Boys (Cleopatrick EP)
''The Boys'' (stylized as ''the boys'') is the second extended play by Canadian indie rock outfit, Cleopatrick. The EP was released on June 29, 2018 through the band's SoundCloud account. Critical reception Matthew Waters, writing for ''Xune Mag'' described the album as "devilishly talented" and praised the accessibility, and musicianship of the EP. Waters described ''The Boys'' as a "lush set of uncomplicated rock that easy to listen to and enjoy. Cleopatrick have circumvented the hard rock theme and elevated it to something truly fantastic. Intelligent lyrics accompany a gritty rock backdrop." Writing for CFML-FM, Hannah Gorton praised the energy of the album, but dismissed the idea of this band being rock revivalists. Cleopatrick
Cleopatrick (stylized in lowercase) is a Canadian rock duo based out of Cobourg, Ontario. They have their own record label, called Nowhere Special Recordings. Background Childhood friends Ian Fraser and Luke Gruntz grew up in Cobourg, Ontario had been friends since age 4 and began getting interested in music around age 8 when they first listened to AC/DC. Later in their teens they began recording their own music. Their debut EP, titled '"14"' was released on 14 February 2016, though they began to gain popularity with single "Hometown". Released in 2017, it peaked at No. 6 on the US Mainstream Rock Charts. It was taken from their second EP, "The Boys", which was released on 29 June 2018. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Bummer (album)
''Bummer'' (stylised in uppercase) is the debut studio album by Canadian rock duo Cleopatrick. It was released on 4 June 2021 via Nowhere Special Recordings. Release The first single "Good Grief" was released on 11 December 2020, alongside its accompanying music video. Gruntz said the song "marks a new era for our band". This was followed by second single "The Drake" on 11 March 2021, which Gruntz says was written about "assholes from our hometown". The third single "Family Van" was released on 20 April 2021, alongside the announcement of the album, and an online video game themed with the song. About the song, Gruntz said "I wrote Family Van after a band ripped one of our songs off. They were bigger than us and we felt powerless." CFML-FM is the campus radio station of the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. History The station began broadcasting in January 1982 at 650 kHz on the AM band and on cable FM at 104.5 MHz. On October 26, 1984, the CRTC approved B.C.I.T. Radio Society's application to change CFML's frequency from 650 kHz to 940 kHz, as local station CISL swapped frequencies from 940 kHz to 650 kHz. On March 7, 2006, the station began using the name ''Evolution 107.9 FM'' upon the launch of its new location on the FM dial at 107.9 MHz.
