The 160th Boat Race took place on 6 April 2014. Following a clash of oars which broke one of the Cambridge boat's rigger backstays, Oxford won the race by 11 lengths, the largest margin of victory since 1973. In the reserve race Oxford's Isis beat Cambridge's Goldie, while Oxford won the Women's Boat Race. The rowing competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held from 28 July to 4 August 2012, at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, was officially termed Eton Dorney. Fourteen medal events were contested by 550 athletes, 353 men and 197 women. Great Britain was the most successful nation, topping the medal table with four golds and nine in total. New Zealand finished second with three golds and five medals overall. Venue All of the rowing events were staged at the Eton Dorney Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake near Windsor Castle, west of London. Ian Middleton (rowing)
Ian Peter Middleton (born 1995) is a British Coxswain (rowing), cox. Profile Whilst in education at Abingdon School he gained colours for the Abingdon School Boat Club. After leaving Abingdon in 2013 he attended Queens' College, Cambridge and joined the Queens' College Boat Club. Rowing In 2014 he was selected as the cox for the Cambridge light blue boat at the world renowned The Boat Race, Boat Race but finished on the losing side. A second appearance as cox in 2015 ensued but Cambridge once again lost. A third appearance arrived in 2016, which resulted in a win. In addition to representing Cambridge he has coxed Great Britain's under-23 men's eight crew, steering them to sixth place at the 2014 World Rowing U23 Championships in Varese, Italy and a silver medal at the 2016 World Rowing U23 Championships. Coxswain (rowing)
In a rowing crew, the coxswain ( ; colloquially known as the cox or coxie) is the member who does not row but steers the boat and faces forward, towards the bow. The coxswain is responsible for steering the boat and coordinating the power and rhythm of the rowers. In some capacities, the coxswain is responsible for implementing the training regimen or race plan. Most coaches cannot communicate to boat/coxswain, so the coxswain is the "coach" in the boat. A coxswain is necessary in the first place because the rowers sit with their backs to the direction of travel. In rowing, the stroke is the rower seated closest to the stern of the boat. In the United Kingdom, the "stroke side" is the port side of the boat, because sweep rowing boats are usually rigged such that the stroke is on the port side of the boat. Malcolm Howard (rower)
Malcolm Howard (born February 7, 1983) is a Canadian rower. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia and graduated from Brentwood College School (Mill Bay, British Columbia) in 2001. While at Brentwood he joined Canada's junior national team. As part of the national team Howard won three World Rowing Championships medals including a silver in 2004 in the men's coxed fours, and a gold in 2007 in the men's eights. He won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the men's eights with Andrew Byrnes, Kyle Hamilton, Adam Kreek, Kevin Light, Ben Rutledge, Dominic Sieterle, Jake Wetzel and cox Brian Price.
