The Bills (band)
The Bills are a high-impact, acoustic folk music quintet from the West Coast of Canada. Formed in 1996 (as The Bill Hilly Band), they have performed extensively throughout North America and Europe, with their strongest followings in Western Canada, the Western US, Ontario and the UK. Though the lineup has had a few changes since the band first formed, the present-day Bills are: * Marc Atkinson - mandolin, guitar, vocals * Richard Moody - violin, viola, vocals * Chris Frye - guitar, lead vocals * Adrian Dolan - fiddle, piano, accordion, vocals * Scott 'Grampa Bill' White - upright bass, vocals The group has also toured and recorded with both Joey Smith and Nick Mintenko on bass; Glen Manders ("Reverend Bill Bass") was the bassist from 1998 to 2008. Red House Records
Red House Records is an independent folk and Americana record label in St. Paul, Minnesota. The label was founded in 1983 by Bob Feldman after seeing a performance by Iowa folk singer Greg Brown. Origin The label is named for a farmhouse in Iowa where Brown was living when he started it. After Brown's albums ''44 & 66'' and ''The Iowa Waltz'' were released in 1981 and 1982, it briefly went dormant until he met Bob Feldman in 1983. Feldman took over operation of the record label, while Brown focused on his musical endeavors, as he had just signed on to regularly perform on the radio program ''A Prairie Home Companion''. Feldman was known for his business philosophy of wanting "to provide a home and environment in which creative artists can make albums in total freedom—without interference from mogul types just looking for the next hit single." The ''Western Canadian Music Awards'' (WCMAs) are an annual awards event for music in the western portion of Canada. The awards are provided by the Western Canada Music Alliance, which consists of six member music industry organizations from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, and The Northwest Territories. The Western Canadian Music Awards presentation gala takes place on the final evening of the ''Breakout West'' music conference & festival, which takes place in a different Western Canadian city each year. Juno Award
The Juno Awards, more popularly known as the JUNOS, are awards presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies. The Juno Awards are often referred to as the Canadian equivalent of the Brit Awards in the United Kingdom or the Grammy Awards given in the United States. ''The Rough Guide to the Music of Canada'' is a compilation album originally released in 2003. Part of the World Music Network Rough Guides series, it gives a wide overview of the music of Canada. Though contemporary styles are represented, the album focuses on roots revivalism, ranging from the traditional music of the Maritimes and Quebec to First Nations music and tracks representing Canada's wide ethnic range. The release was compiled by Dan Rosenberg & Philly Markowitz. Gregory McIntosh of AllMusic gave the album three stars, calling it diverse but nicely flowing.
