The Big Picture (song)
"The Big Picture" is a song by American synth-pop band Y Kant Tori Read, commercially released by Atlantic Records in 1988 exclusively as a 7" vinyl single in a generic picture sleeve. Two versions of a promotional 7" vinyl were also released, one with light blue labels and one with dark blue labels. A 12" promotional vinyl single was also issued with an accompanying picture sleeve. The song was a commercial failure and received absolutely no critical comment. A music video for "The Big Picture" was shot by Marty Callner. The only band member to appear in it is Tori Amos. It is typical of the era, featuring a scantily clad Amos cavorting and wreaking havoc on a sound-stage made to resemble the back alleys of Los Angeles. It is notable for a narrative introductory bit during which Amos argues with a police officer about her illegally parked car. Y Kant Tori Read
Y Kant Tori Read was an American synthpop band fronted by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. The band released one album, also called ''Y Kant Tori Read'', which was largely unsuccessful. Atlantic Records abandoned promoting the album completely after two months of release. The band originally consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Amos, guitarist Steve Caton, drummer Matt Sorum (later of Guns N' Roses), and bassist Brad Cobb. They worked with record producer Joe Chiccarelli and Kim Bullard, later of Kajagoogoo. The name comes from an incident in Amos's childhood where she was asked to leave the Peabody Conservatory because she refused to read sheet music. A music video for their song "The Big Picture" was made, but the only member of the band featured was Amos, since by then, unable to withstand pressure from Atlantic Records, she had jettisoned the rest of them with the exception of Steve Caton. ''Comic Book Tattoo '' is an Eisner award and Harvey Award–winning comics anthology, anthology graphic novel made up of fifty-one stories, each based on or inspired by a song by American singer-songwriter Tori Amos, published by Image Comics in 2008. Rantz Hoseley, longtime friend of Amos, served as the book's editor. Together, Hoseley and Amos gathered eighty different artists to collaborate on the book. ''Comic Book Tattoo'' includes an introduction by another longtime friend of Amos, Neil Gaiman, creator of ''The Sandman (Vertigo), The Sandman'' series. A garter is an article of clothing comprising a narrow band of fabric fastened about the leg to keep up stockings. ''Y Kant Tori Read'' is the debut (and only) studio album by American rock band of the same name, fronted by then-unknown singer and songwriter Tori Amos. It was released in 1988 by Atlantic Records. Background The band consisted of Amos, singer-pianist Kim Bullard, future Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, as well as long-time Amos collaborator guitarist Steve Caton, Richárd Bernard on bouzouki, and various session musicians. Due to the title, some critics believed the album was a solo project by a woman named "Tori Read". This was compounded by the fact that Amos is billed simply as "Tori" in the liner notes. The choice of producer in Joe Chiccarelli was that of Amos, who had liked some of the albums that he made previously.
