Y Kant Tori Read (album)
''Y Kant Tori Read'' is the debut (and only) studio album by American rock band of the same name, fronted by then-unknown singer and songwriter Tori Amos. It was released in 1988 by Atlantic Records. Background The band consisted of Amos, singer-pianist Kim Bullard, future Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, as well as long-time Amos collaborator guitarist Steve Caton, Richárd Bernard on bouzouki, and various session musicians. Due to the title, some critics believed the album was a solo project by a woman named "Tori Read". This was compounded by the fact that Amos is billed simply as "Tori" in the liner notes. The choice of producer in Joe Chiccarelli was that of Amos, who had liked some of the albums that he made previously. Y Kant Tori Read was an American synthpop band fronted by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. The band released one album, also called ''Y Kant Tori Read'', which was largely unsuccessful. Atlantic Records abandoned promoting the album completely after two months of release. The band originally consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Amos, guitarist Steve Caton, drummer Matt Sorum (later of Guns N' Roses), and bassist Brad Cobb. They worked with record producer Joe Chiccarelli and Kim Bullard, later of Kajagoogoo. The name comes from an incident in Amos's childhood where she was asked to leave the Peabody Conservatory because she refused to read sheet music. A music video for their song "The Big Picture" was made, but the only member of the band featured was Amos, since by then, unable to withstand pressure from Atlantic Records, she had jettisoned the rest of them with the exception of Steve Caton. "Pictures of You" is a song by English rock band the Cure. It was released on 19 March 1990 by Fiction Records as the fourth and final single from the band's eighth studio album, '' Disintegration'' (1989). The song has a single version which is a shorter edit of the album version. There are also two different remixes on two UK 12-inch singles, and other singles released around the world, one of which later appeared on '' Mixed Up'' as the Extended Dub Mix and differs significantly from the album version in arrangement in that incorporates wholly original drum and bass arrangements. The other is an extended remix of the original album version which, at 7:59, runs slightly longer than the album version. There is also an edit which was released on 12-inch in the US, titled "extended remix" as in the European and Australasian releases, but which runs for 6:40 rather than 7:59. "A Groovy Kind of Love" is a song written by Toni Wine and Carole Bayer Sager based on a melody by the classical composer Muzio Clementi. The original rendition was recorded by American singing duo Diane & Annita and released as "Groovey Kind of Love" on the French EP ''One by One'', in 1965. It has since been recorded by numerous artists, with the Mindbenders and Phil Collins releasing successful versions. Background "A Groovy Kind of Love" consists of lyrics written by Bayer Sager and Wine, with music by Muzio Clementi.
