The Beautiful Beast
''The Beautiful Beast'' (french: La Belle bête) is a Canadian drama film, directed by Karim Hussain and released in 2006. An adaptation of Marie-Claire Blais's 1959 novel '' Mad Shadows (La Belle bête)'', the film centres on a dysfunctional family headed by single mother Louise (Carole Laure), who has an abusive relationship with her children Patrice (Marc-André Grondin) and Isabelle-Marie (Caroline Dhavernas). The cast also includes David La Haye, Sébastien Huberdeau, Ludivine Reding, Normand Lévesque, Nicolas Girard Deltruc and Richard Tassé. The film premiered on October 11, 2006 at the Sitges Film Festival, before going into general release in Quebec on November 3. Karim Hussain (Ottawa, born July 16, 1975) is a Canadian filmmaker and cinematographer. As a director he is best known for his 2000 film ''Subconscious Cruelty'', and as co-writer of Nacho Cerdà's '' The Abandoned''. In 2006, he adapted French-Canadian writer Marie-Claire Blais' work, '' La Belle Bête''. Patrick Watson (musician)
Patrick Watson (born October 8, 1979) is an American-born Canadian singer-songwriter from Montreal, Quebec. It also refers to the eponymous band formed by Watson, whose blend of cabaret pop and classical music influences with indie rock has been compared to Rufus Wainwright, Andrew Bird, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and Pink Floyd for its experimental musicianship. Patrick Watson's album ''Close to Paradise'' was awarded the Polaris Music Prize in 2007. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members.
