27th Genie Awards
The 27th Genie Awards were held on February 13, 2007 to honour films released in 2006. The ceremony was located at the Carlu theatre in Toronto. '' The Rocket (Maurice Richard)'' was the most successful film at these awards, winning nine of its 13 nominated categories. ''Bon Cop, Bad Cop'' won just two of its 10 nominations, although it received the highest 2006 box office revenues in Canada to earn the Golden Reel Award. The Carlu (Toronto)
The Carlu is an historic event space in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Opened in 1930 and known as the eponymous "Eaton's Seventh Floor", the venue was restored and reopened in 2003, renamed for its original architect. The Carlu is one of Toronto's best examples of Art Moderne architecture. The venue is owned by restaurant firm Oliver & Bonacini. History In 1930, the Eaton's department store chain, at the time Canada's dominant retailer, opened " Eaton's College Street", an imposing Art moderne store at the intersection of Yonge Street and College Street. The matriarch of the Eaton family, Lady Eaton, was a member of Eaton's board of directors, and the Eaton's restaurants were one of her responsibilities. Jean-François Pouliot
Jean-François Pouliot (born 1957) is a Canadian film director from Quebec. He was born in Montreal and studied at Concordia University. He worked as an assistant cameraman, while also writing and directing short animated films for the National Film Board. In 1982, Pouliot joined the advertising firm Cossette Communication Marketing, where he twice won the Grand prix du Mondial de publicité francophone, a French language advertising award. Érik Canuel
Érik Canuel (born 1961) is a film director and actor from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Canuel, the son of actor Yvan Canuel, began his career in the mid-1980s making music videos for such artists as Paul Piché, Sass Jordan, Norman Iceberg, Vilain Pingouin and Sylvain Cossette. After shooting a number of TV commercials, several of them award-winners, he worked as a director on the television series ''Big Wolf on Campus'', for the Fox network, and ''The Hunger'', broadcast on Showtime and The Movie Network. Charles Binamé
Charles Binamé (born May 25, 1949) is a Quebec director. He was born in Belgium and came to Montreal with his family at a young age. He joined the National Film Board of Canada as an assistant director in 1971, but soon left for the private sector. During the 1970s, he mostly directed documentaries for Quebec television, and in the 1980s he directed over 200 television commercials, including some in England. When he returned to Canada in the early 1990s, he directed two of Quebec's most popular television series of all time, ''Blanche'' (the sequel to the series ''Les Filles de Caleb'') and ''Marguerite Volant''. The former won him seven Prix Gémeaux and the FIPA d'Or at Cannes Film Festival for best drama series. Lyse Lafontaine (born 1942) is a Canadian film producer known for working with directors Jean-Claude Lauzon and Xavier Dolan. She works at Lyla Films in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
