The Bachelorette (season 5)
The fifth season of the ABC reality television series ''The Bachelorette'' began on May 18, 2009 with a two-hour premiere. The show features Jillian Harris, an interior designer from Peace River, Alberta, Canada, courting 30 men, five more than previous seasons. This was the first season in ''The Bachelor'' and ''The Bachelorette'' franchise with 30 suitors. Harris was rejected by Jason Mesnick in the thirteenth season of '' The Bachelor''; she was the second runner-up. Harris, a native of Canada, is the first ever non-American selected for ''The Bachelorette''. In the finale, Harris chose Ed Swiderski. Swiderski was the first person to win in the show's history after being quit in the same season. The couple broke off their engagement in July 2010.
