''The Amazing Race Philippines 1'' is the first season of ''The Amazing Race Philippines''. It featured eleven teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the Philippines to win Philippine peso, ₱2 million. The show is hosted by Derek Ramsay. ''The Amazing Race'' is an adventure reality game show franchise in which teams of two people race around the world in competition with other teams. The ''Race'' is split into legs, with teams tasked to deduce clues, navigate themselves in foreign areas, interact with locals, and perform physical and mental challenges that often highlight aspects of a location's culture, history, or economy. Typhoon Bopha, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Pablo, was the strongest tropical cyclone on record to ever affect the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, making landfall as a Category 5 super typhoon with winds of 175 mph (280 km/h).
