The Acoustic Album (Toyah Wilcox Album)
''The Acoustic Album'' is a studio album by the British singer Toyah Willcox, released in 1996. It is a collection of Acoustic music, acoustic re-recordings of songs from her back catalogue. Background The material was recorded in 1994 and consisted of new, stripped-down versions of classic hits as well as lesser-known, non-single tracks from the Toyah (band), Toyah band and Willcox's solo repertoire. Some tracks feature String section, string arrangements performed by members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The material was originally conceived as part of a double album ''Toyah Classics'' which would have also comprised its 'electric' accompaniment ''Looking Back (Toyah album), Looking Back'', slated for release in March 1995. The two sets would eventually be released individually as separate albums. In 2014, ''The Acoustic Album'' was re-released by Vertical Species in digital and CD formats, with a new artwork by Alan Sawyers and photography by Dean Stockings. Track listi ...

Thunder In The Mountains
"Thunder in the Mountains" is a song by the English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox, released as a single in 1981 by Safari Records. It was one of Toyah's biggest hits, reaching number 4 in the UK chart. Background The song was written by Toyah Willcox, Adrian Lee and Nigel Glockler, and produced by Nick Tauber. It was written in summer 1981 under a huge pressure due to the commercial success that the band was having at that time. "I had about four hours to write this lyric before the car took me to the Marquee Studios in the West End where we were to record the song and then it was to go straight to print. (...) There were riots going on in all the main cities at this particular weekend. There was general unrest. (...) I wanted to reflect this in the song that I see you, I hear you, let's all rebel together, let's bring positive change", Toyah reflected. "Thunder in the Mountains" was released as a standalone single in October 1981. The cover photo was taken by ...

Ieya
"Ieya" is a song by the English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox. It was first released as a single in 1980 by Safari Records to promote the album ''The Blue Meaning''. It was re-recorded and re-issued in 1982, and met with minor chart success in the UK. Background "Ieya" started off as a jam in the soundcheck before the band's concert in Bath, where it was subsequently performed as the fourth encore that night. Toyah recalled that the band "walked on stage and started 'Ieya', and within the first sixteen bars the audience was behaving in a way I'd never seen before. And because 'Ieya' had no real form, we'd only ever jammed it, what should have been a four-minute song went on for twenty minutes, and the audience didn't stop dancing once, and I just kept making up words as I went along. (...) It was a sequence of chords that grew, so every verse had more chords added to it, and it had a fantastically simple chorus, a chant". The song was written by Toyah Willcox, J ...

It's A Mystery (song)
"It's a Mystery" is a song by English new wave band Toyah, fronted by Toyah Willcox, released as a single in 1981 by Safari Records. The song was a hit in the UK where it peaked in the Top 5 in the charts as the lead track on the EP '' Four from Toyah''. Background The song was originally written by Keith Hale for the band Blood Donor, but the record company Safari wanted Toyah to record it. Although Toyah Willcox wrote the lyrics of the second verse, she is officially not credited as a co-writer of the song and does not receive royalties for it. In its original form, the track had a 12-minute vocal part and a 28-minute instrumental, but was subsequently given a shorter, more radio-friendly song structure. Initially, Willcox had some reservations about recording the song: "I was slightly against it because it was very feminine, (...) it was vulnerable, it was everything I didn't want to show about myself". She worried that it did not suit her punk rock image and that its mains ...
