1984 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were held from December 1984 to May 1985, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Manipur, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats as well as the popular vote, and Rishang Keishing was reappointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur. After the passing of the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, Manipur was converted from a Union Territory to a State and the size of its Legislative Assembly was increased from 30 to 60 members. Manipur State Congress Party
Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) is a former political party in the Indian state of Manipur. The party was founded in 1997 by Wahengbam Nipamacha as a split from the Indian National Congress (INC). In 2014 the MCSP remerged with the INC. History The party was formed after a group of ministers and legislators, led by former Speaker Nipamacha, broke away from the ruling Indian National Congress and floated the Party which subsequently formed the next government. "Cultivator Cutting Crop" is the election symbol of the party. Nipamacha then became the chief minister of a coalition government led by the party. In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, then-MSCP candidate Th. Chaoba Singh got elected and became Union Minister of State for Food Processing during Atal Behari Vajpayee's tenure. Janata Dal (United) ("People’s Party (United)”) abbreviated as JD(U) is an Indian political party with political presence mainly in eastern and north-eastern India. Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were held in February 2002, to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Manipur, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats as well as the popular vote, and Okram Ibobi Singh was appointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur. The Indian National Congress didn't have a majority of seats on its own and joined the Secular Proggresive Front alliance, along with the Communist Party of India, the Nationalist Congress Party and the Manipur State Congress Party.
