Thamshavn Line Sabotage
The Thamshavn Line sabotage was a series of sabotages against the railway Thamshavn Line in Orkdal, Norway during World War II. There were four separate sabotages, all performed by Company Linge in an attempt by the Norwegian resistance to prevent Germany from getting the pyrites that were being extracted at the mine at Løkken Verk. Background The Løkken Mine had been operated since 1654, and in 1908 it was modernised with electric pumping and Norway's first electric railway that connected the mine to the port at Thamshavn 25 km away. After the German invasion in 1940 German forces secured control over the mine, but let the operating company Orkla Gruber-Aktieselskab (that since has developed into the Forbes 500-company Orkla Group) continue extraction, since most of the export had been going to Germany anyway. Bjørnør
Bjørnør is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until 1892 in what was at that time the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway. It encompassed the area of what is now the municipality of Osen along with the Roan and Stoksund areas in the present day municipality of Åfjord, all in the western part of the Fosen peninsula in Trøndelag county. Peter Vogelius Deinboll, DSO, MC (29 July 1915 – 8 November 1944) was a Norwegian engineer, and resistance member during World War II. Personal life He was born in Sulitjelma as a son of Peter Blessing Deinboll and Sigfrid Hildur Deinboll, née Nagell. His parents hailed from Nærøy and Haugesund. He grew up in Orkanger, where his father worked for Salvesen & Thams at Thamshamn from 1920. Peter Deinboll had a degree in chemistry from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and worked at the railway workshop at Thamshavn before the outbreak of World War II. Elkem Thamshavn
Elkem Thamshavn is a smelting plant owned by Elkem located at Thamshavn just north of Orkanger in Orkland Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The plant produces silicon and microsilica and was started in 1931. History Copper and Sulfur have been excavated in the Løkken Mines since 1654 that had to be freighted down to Orkanger and onwards to Europe by ship. In 1867, Wilhelm Thams built a sawmill at Thamshavn, and the place took the surname of his family. His grandson Christian Thams, together with Christian Salvesen, bought the mines at Løkken Verk in 1904 and constructed a railway, Thamshavnbanen, from the mine and down the to the port at Thamshavn.
