Thames Trains was a train operating company in the United Kingdom owned by Go-Ahead Group, Go-Ahead that operated the Thames Trains franchise from October 1996 until March 2004. History The Thames Trains franchise was awarded by the Director of Passenger Rail Franchising to Victory Rail Holdings, a company owned by Go-Ahead Group, Go-Ahead (65%) and some ex-British Rail managers (35%), with operations commencing on 13 October 1996. Go-Ahead bought the remaining shares it did not own in June 1998. The Ladbroke Grove rail crash of 5 October 1999 involved a Thames Trains British Rail Class 165, Class 165, which had Signal passed at danger, failed to stop at a red signal. Thames Trains was fined £2 million for violations of health and safety law in connection with the incident, and was also ordered to pay £75,000 in costs. British Rail Class 166
The British Rail Class 166 ''Networker Turbo'' is a fleet of diesel multiple-unit passenger trains (DMUs), originally specified by and built for British Rail, the then Great Britain state-owned railway operator. They were built by ABB at York Works between 1992 and 1993. The trains were designed as a faster, air-conditioned variant of the Class 165 ''Turbo'', intended for longer-distance services, and, like the 165s, belong to the Networker family of trains. They were originally known as ''Networker Turbos'' to distinguish them from the electrically propelled members of that family. Bristol Temple Meads is the oldest and largest railway station in Bristol, England. It is located away from London Paddington. North Downs Line
The North Downs Line is a passenger-train line connecting Reading, on the Great Western Main Line, to Redhill and , along the Brighton Main Line, linking many centres of population in that part of the North Downs which it traverses en route. The route Between Redhill and Ash the line runs roughly parallel with the North Downs. Between Reigate and Gomshall the line runs along the foot of the North Downs escarpment in the Vale of Holmesdale. Henley Branch Line
The Henley branch line is a branch railway line between Twyford in Berkshire and Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. It was built by the Great Western Railway in 1857. Train services are provided by the present day Great Western Railway train operating company. The railway provides access to the River Thames and the Thames Path and is heavily used during the Henley Royal Regatta.
