Thamaraikulam is a panchayat town in Periyakulam taluk of Theni district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Gandhinagar, Bangalapatti, Thamaraikulam, Thasildar nagar these are important wards in this village. History The group of people who lived around pudukottai annavasal moved from their place Because of the cruelty of the king of Pudukkottai . Few group of people came to Thamaraikulam, they found this place to be a suitable settlement. So they founded a village in that place, it is later called Thamaraikulam. Karnam Venkatachalam (1874–1934) was an Indian government official. He attained posting of Karnam at an early age. During British reign, he was the chief of village people in Thamaraikulam. Early life He was born in 1874 in Thamaraikulam, Theni, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He is the Grand son of Karnam Thillai Nayagam. He is the only son to his father. Religion He practiced Hinduism and Saivism. Maravar
Maravar (also known as Maravan and Marava) are a Tamil community in the state of Tamil Nadu. These people are one of the three branches of the Mukkulathor confederacy. Members of the Maravar community often use the honorific title ''Thevar''. They are classified as an Other Backward Class or a Denotified Tribe in Tamil Nadu, depending on the district. The Sethupathi rulers of the erstwhile Ramnad kingdom were from this community. The Maravar community, along with the Kallars, had a reputation for thieving and robbery from as early as the medieval period. Kārkāthār (also known as Kaarukaatha Vellalar) is a Hindu caste in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Etymology Karkathar, ( 'rain', and , 'protector' in Tamil), signifying 'protector of rain'.
