Texas State Highway 13
State Highway 13 (SH 13) was a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that ran from Amarillo due west to the New Mexico border near Glenrio, Texas. SH 13 was one of the original 25 state highways proposed on June 21, 1917, overlaid on top of the Ozark Trail. From 1917 the routing mostly followed present-day US 60 from Farwell through Amarillo to Pampa. From there, the highway turned east on present-day SH 152 to the border near Wheeler. On October 8, 1917, SH 13 was completely reassigned to the route due east from New Mexico through Amarillo, Hedley, and Wellington to the Oklahoma border. On February 17, 1919, an inter-county highway was designated from Amarillo east to the Oklahoma state line. On August 21, 1922, this was redesignated as part of SH 13. On November 27, 1922, this was redesignated as SH 13A, and the west end was rerouted to end at Goodnight. On August 21, 1923, this route was renumbered as SH 75. US 60
U.S. Route 60 is a major east–west United States highway, traveling from southwestern Arizona to the Atlantic Ocean coast in Virginia. The highway's eastern terminus is in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where it is known as Pacific Avenue, in the city's Oceanfront resort district at the intersection of 5th Street and Winston-Salem Avenue. Its original western terminus was in Springfield, Missouri; it was then extended to Los Angeles, California, but in 1964, it was truncated to end southwest of Brenda, Arizona, at an interchange with Interstate 10 (I-10) after the US 60 highway designation was removed from California. I-10 replaced US 60 from Beaumont, California, to Arizona, and California State Route 60 (SR 60) replaced US 60 from Los Angeles to Beaumont. Ozark Trail (road System)
The Ozark Trail was a network of locally maintained roads and highways organized by the Ozark Trails Association that predated the United States federal highway system. The roads ran from St. Louis, Missouri, to El Paso, Texas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, over a series of routes. These roads were maintained by both private citizens and local communities. In one case, however, the U.S. government was directly involved; it built the Newcastle Bridge in 1923 over the South Canadian River between Newcastle, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City, as the first federal highway project built in Oklahoma. These roads comprised the major highway system in the region until U.S. Highway 66 was built in the 1920s. In Oklahoma, portions of the section-line roads between Anadarko and Hobart are still referred to as "The Old Ozark Trail." Texas State Highway 52
Below is a list and summary of some of the deleted state highways (i.e., those with no current routing) as outlined by the Texas Department of Transportation designation files, indicated by having zero current mileage. SH 1 State Highway 1 ran from El Paso through Dallas to Texarkana. It was the first highway designated in 1917. In 1926, the United States Highway System was designated, with US 80 colocated from El Paso to Dallas and US 67 from Dallas to Texarkana. On September 26, 1939, the dual designations were removed, leaving SH 1 only on a small stretch west of Dallas. This section was redesignated as State Loop 260 on August 20, 1952. Texas State Highway 75
State Highway 75 (SH 75) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. It follows the former routing of U.S. Route 75 (US 75), which was supplanted by Interstate 45 south of Dallas, except in Dallas, where the former US 75 is now SH 310, and through Ferris, Palmer, Ennis, and Corsicana, where the old highway is signed as a business route of I-45. The route was designated in 1987. Route description The southern terminus of the route is in Conroe, where it merges into Interstate 45 at the southern side of Loop 336. The northern terminus is approximately three miles north of Streetman, in the southern section of Navarro County, where it becomes the east side frontage road for I-45. Glenrio, formerly Rock Island, is an unincorporated community in both Deaf Smith County, Texas, and Quay County, New Mexico, United States. Located on the former U.S. Route 66, the ghost town sits on the Texas–New Mexico state line. Farwell is a city in and the county seat of Parmer County, Texas, United States. Its population was 1,363 at the 2010 census.
