''Texas 25'' is a compilation album by Scottish rock band Texas, released on 16 February 2015. The album was released to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary and features eight reworked Texas tracks along with four new songs. A 2-disc deluxe edition of the album was also released, with disc 1 featuring the same track listing as the standard version of the album and disc 2 including the original versions of 15 of the band's biggest hits. In 2016, it was awarded a gold certification from the Independent Music Companies Association, indicating sales of at least 75,000 copies throughout Europe. Texas are a Scottish alternative rock Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. "Alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from Popular culture, mainstre ... band from Glasgow. They were founded in 1986 by Johnny McElhone (formerly of the bands Altered Images and Hipsway) and Sharleen Spiteri on lead vocals. ''Southside'' is the debut album by Scottish rock band Texas. It was released on 13 March 1989. It peaked at no. 3 in the UK Albums Chart and within three weeks of release was certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. Worldwide, ''Southside'' has sold over 2 million copies. Background and release The album's first single "I Don't Want a Lover" was released on 23 January 1989 and peaked at no. 8 in the UK Singles Chart. Following the release of the album in March of that year, which entered the UK Albums Chart at no.3, further singles from the album were less successful. The second single, "Thrill Has Gone", peaked at no. 60, while a third single, "Everyday Now", fared little better at no. 44. Little Barrie
Little Barrie is an English rock group consisting of Barrie Cadogan (vocals, guitar) and Lewis Wharton (bass, vocals). Virgil Howe contributed drums and vocals from 2007 until his death in 2017. Their sound has drawn from a mixture of influences including freakbeat, garage rock, UK R&B, neo-psychedelia, surf rock, krautrock, funk and rock and roll. The band released ''Death Express'' in 2017. Band history The first Little Barrie single "Shrug Off Love" / "Reply Me (It Don't Deny Me)" was released in summer 2000. It originated from a demo recorded in 1999 by Cadogan with friends Chris Lee on drums and Miles Newbold engineering the sessions and also playing organ. Thomas Brenneck
Thomas "Tommy" Brenneck is an American guitarist, record producer, and engineer. He became known as the leader of the Menahan Street Band and a member of The Budos Band, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and El Michels Affair. He is the founder of Dunham Records, a subsidiary of seminal retro-soul label Daptone Records; he was the producer of soul singer Charles Bradley. As a producer and session musician, he frequently works with Daptone and Big Crown Records artists. History Tom Brenneck was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He is a self-taught guitarist and joined the original Daptone band The Dap-Kings at the age of 20. He quickly became one of the essential members of the Daptone family, working closely with the label founder and producer Gabe Roth aka Bosco Mann. Wu-Tang Clan is an American hip hop group formed in Staten Island, New York City, in 1992. ''Red Book'' is the seventh album from Scottish rock band Texas. It was released on 7 November 2005 and entered the UK Albums Chart at #16. It is named after the little red book that singer Sharleen Spiteri used to write the album songs. The album yielded two UK Top Ten singles, " Getaway" and "Sleep" and the UK Top 20 single, " Can't Resist". Four of the album's tracks were co-written with Brian Higgins of Xenomania — "Can't Resist", "Cry", "Get Down Tonight" and "Bad Weather". "Sleep" is a song by Scottish band Texas, released as the third and final single from their seventh studio album, '' Red Book'' (2005), on 9 January 2006. The song features Paul Buchanan from fellow Scottish musical group the Blue Nile. "Sleep" was released on 9 January 2006 in three different formats: two audio CD singles and a DVD single. The song peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart, and as of 2021, it remains their last UK top-40 hit. "Take Your Mama" from CD2 is a cover version of the song by Scissor Sisters. It was the band's first greatest hits album, featuring songs spanning their career from 1989 to 2000. Three new singles were also included: "In Demand", "Inner Smile" and " Guitar Song". Two extra bonus tracks appear on the UK edition of the album that do not appear on the international edition. In territories where the group did not chart any major hits, the album was simply renamed ''Song Book''. The song was released in Europe on 25 September 2000 and in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2000 as the first single from their compilation album ''The Greatest Hits'', reaching number six on the UK Singles Chart and number 10 in Spain. Music video The single was accompanied by a music video, which stars English actor Alan Rickman alongside Sharleen Spiteri. In it, Spiteri is seen wrapped up in a parka jacket being driven through the night in the back of a chauffeured Bentley Azure.
