Terézváros
Terézváros (English: Theresa Town, German: Theresienstadt) is the District VI of Budapest, and was named after Queen Maria Theresa in 1777, who visited the neighbourhood 26 years earlier in 1751. The territory was first inhabited in the early 18th century when the old town of Pest (today: Inner City) was already fully built, so that people had to inhabit lands outside the city. Terézváros was one of the ten districts that were formed when the city of Budapest was created in 1873. Today Terézváros is the second in population density after the neighbouring Erzsébetváros. Terézváros is meanwhile the second smallest district (also the first being Erzsébetváros). Both districts are famous for their night life. Location Terézváros is located in the Pest side of Budapest. List Of Districts In Budapest
Budapest, the capital of Hungary has 23 districts ( hu, kerület), each with its own municipal government. The number of districts in Budapest Budapest was organized into 10 districts (numbered from I to X) in 1873 after the unification of the cities of Pest, Buda and Óbuda. The districts at that time: *Buda: I, II *Óbuda: III *Pest: IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X In the 1930s, 4 new districts were organized, numbered from XI to XIV. On 1 January 1950, 7 neighboring towns and 16 villages were annexed to Budapest by creating 9 new districts, so the number of its districts increased to 22. District IV was annexed to District V and the number IV was given to the northernmost newly merged town, Újpest. Tamás Soproni
Tamás István Soproni (born 20 February 1986) is a Hungarian linguist, translator and politician, who has been the Mayor of Terézváros (6th district of Budapest) since 2019. He is a member of the Momentum Movement. Life Soproni was born into a lower-middle-class family in Budapest on 20 February 1986. He lives in Terézváros since his childhood. His father was a sexton. He earned a degree of English studies at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University. He functioned as vice president for foreign affairs in the local student council. He is working as a linguist and translator of literary works. Political career Soproni was a joint candidate of the Together, Dialogue for Hungary, Hungarian Socialist Party and Democratic Coalition for a representative seat in Terézváros during the 2014 local elections. Inner City (Budapest)
__NOTOC__ Inner City ( hu, Belváros; german: Innenstadt) the central part of Budapest. It is more or less equivalent with the historic old town of Pest. Location The Inner City is situated on the left bank of the river Danube. Until 1949 it was the ''4th district'' of the town. Since then it has largely comprised the 5th district and the 6th district. The border of the city from the east follows the line of the old city walls, which is the Small Boulevard; its sections are (''Charles Boulevard''), (''Museum Boulevard'') and (''Vámház Boulevard''). 2019 Budapest Assembly Election
The 2019 Budapest Assembly election was held on 13 October 2019, concurring with other local elections in Hungary. Voters elected the Mayor of Budapest, and the mayors of the 23 districts directly, while 9 seats in the assembly were distributed proportionally, taking into account votes cast for losing district mayoral candidates. Mayor Gergely Karácsony was elected mayor with 50.86% of the vote, defeating incumbent István Tarlós who held the office since 2010. Andrássy Avenue ( hu, Andrássy út) is a boulevard in Budapest, Hungary, dating back to 1872. It links Erzsébet Square with the City Park (Budapest), Városliget. Erzsébetváros
---- Erzsébetváros (german: link=no, Elisabethstadt, both names meaning ''Elizabethtown'') is the 7th district of Budapest, situated on the Pest side of the Danube. The inner half of the district was the historic Jewish quarter of Pest. The Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest functioning synagogue in Europe, is located in this district. Currently it is the most densely populated district of Budapest with 29,681.3 person per km2. In 1910 Erzsébetváros had 152,454 inhabitants. Maria Theresa Walburga Amalia Christina (german: Maria Theresia; 13 May 1717 – 29 November 1780) was ruler of the Habsburg dominions from 1740 until her death in 1780, and the only woman to hold the position ''suo jure'' (in her own right). She was the sovereign of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, Transylvania, Mantua, Milan, Lodomeria and Galicia, the Austrian Netherlands, and Parma. House Of Terror
House of Terror is a museum located at Andrássy út 60 in Budapest, Hungary. It contains exhibits related to the fascist and communist regimes in 20th-century Hungary and is also a memorial to the victims of these regimes, including those detained, interrogated, tortured or killed in the building. The museum opened on 24 February 2002 and the Director-General of the museum since then has been Dr Mária Schmidt. Hungarian State Opera House
The Hungarian State Opera House ( hu, Magyar Állami Operaház) is a neo-Renaissance opera house located in central Budapest, on Andrássy út. Originally known as the Hungarian Royal Opera House, it was designed by Miklós Ybl, a major figure of 19th-century Hungarian architecture.
