Terence Peter "Terry" Smith (born 10 September 1951) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke City and Shrewsbury Town. Career Smith was born in Cheltenham and joined Stoke City Stoke City Football Club is a professional football club based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, which competes in the . Founded as Stoke Ramblers in 1863, it changed its name to Stoke in 1878 and then to Stoke City in 1925 after Stoke ...'s youth team as an apprentice. He played three matches during the 1970–71 season scoring once away at Chelsea. He played once the following season and had a short spell on loan at Shrewsbury Town in 1972. At the end of the season he was released and he emigrated to Australia and played for Western Suburbs, St George Budapest and Hakoah Eastern Suburbs. The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The Football League Third Division was the third tier of the English football league system in 1920–21 and again from 1958 until 1992. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981.
