Terry McLaughlin
Terence "Terry" McLaughlin (born 1956) is a Canadian sailor and Olympics silver medallist. Biography McLaughlin was born July 24, 1956, in Toronto, Ontario to Paul McLaughlin and his wife Mary. His father competed in the 1948 Olympic dinghy regatta. He attended St. Michael's College School and then majored in economics at Queen's University. McLaughlin won a silver medal in the Flying Dutchman Class at the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympics with Evert Bastet. He wished to have competed in the Moscow 1980 Summer Olympics but was unable due to the boycott of the event by western countries. McLaughlin unsuccessfully helmed ''Canada One'' in the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup that determined the challenger for the America’s Cup. McLaughlin won the York Cup match-racing series five times McLaughlin skippered ''Defiant'', out of RCYC, to win the 2001, 2003, 2021 and 2022 editions of the Canada's Cup. John Millen (sailor)
John Charles Millen (born October 18, 1960, in Toronto) is a Canadian sailor. Millen won the International 14 class World Championship in 1981 with Frank McLaughlin. He won a bronze medal in the Flying Dutchman Class at the 1988 Summer Olympics with Frank McLaughlin. He also finished 9th in the same category at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Millen was part of the Canadian team in the 1983 and 1986 America's Cup, sailing first on ''Canada I'' and then on '' Canada II''. He was also part of the Canadian team on the Challenger and Defender of the Canada's Cup in 2001, 2003, 2021 and 2022. The New York Yacht Club (NYYC) is a private social club and yacht club based in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1844 by nine prominent sportsmen. The members have contributed to the sport of yachting and yacht design. As of 2001, the organization was reported to have about 3,000 members. Membership in the club is by invitation only. Canada's Cup
The Canada’s Cup is a silver trophy, deeded in perpetuity in 1896, to be awarded to the winner of a series of match races between a yacht representing a Canadian yacht club and one representing an American yacht club, both to be located on the Great Lakes. The Cup matches were intended to be a test of the challenger’s and the defender’s abilities to design and build a yacht to the prevailing measurement rule, and to sail that yacht to victory. In a departure from the original goal of the Cup to encourage racing yacht design the 2001-2011 Cup challenge races were sailed in the Farr 40, and subsequently in the 2021 and 2022 Cup challenges in the Melges IC37, both one-design class yachts. Royal Canadian Yacht Club
The Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) is a private yacht club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1852, it is one of the world's older and larger yacht clubs. Its summer home is on a trio of islands (RCYC Island, South Island and North Chippewa or Snug Island) in the Toronto Islands.
