Terror Of The Cats (comic Strip)
"Terror of the Cats" is a British horror comic strip character, appearing in titles published by IPC Magazines. The strip was published in the weekly anthology '' Scream!'' from 24 March to 28 April 1984. The story was initially written by Chris Lowder before he quit, with Simon Furman taking over; it was Furman's first published comics work. José Gonzalez and John Richardson provided artwork. The story concerns housecats suddenly becoming hostile to humans. Creation Sensing a gap in the market, senior editors Barrie Tomlinson and Gil Page began putting together the anthology title '' Scream!'' for IPC. Management were nervous; horror comics had been banned in the UK in Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1955, and the IPC board were wary of a repeat to the outcry received by ''Action'' in 1976. ''Scream!'' was a British weekly horror comic anthology that was published for 15 issues by IPC Magazines in 1984. Controversy over horror comics had led to the introduction of the Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1955, under which the first prosecution occurred in 1970. The editorial approach to ''Scream!'' was to de-emphasise the horror label and deliberately not repeat the style of its more controversial precursors, making it more tongue-in-cheek for younger readers, as evidenced by its coverline "not for the nervous". In the United Kingdom, a DSMA-Notice (Defence and Security Media Advisory Notice) is an official request to news editors not to publish or broadcast items on specified subjects for reasons of national security. DSMA-Notices were formerly called a DA-Notice (Defence Advisory Notice), and before that called a Defence Notice (D-Notice) until 1993. The Birds (film)
''The Birds'' is a 1963 American natural horror-thriller film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Loosely based on the 1952 short story of the same name by Daphne du Maurier, it focuses on a series of sudden and unexplained violent bird attacks on the people of Bodega Bay, California, over the course of a few days. The film stars Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren in her screen debut, alongside Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, and Veronica Cartwright. ''Tornado'' was a short-lived weekly British comic magazine published for 22 issues by IPC Magazines between March 1979 and August 1979. After the cancellations of the '' Starlord'' and ''Action'' titles, IPC launched ''Tornado'' as a way to use up stories already commissioned for the other titles. Originally to be called ''Heroes'', like ''Action'' it was a mixed title featuring war, detective, horror, and science fiction stories. Sexton Blake is a fictional character, a detective who has been featured in many British comic strips, novels and dramatic productions since 1893.
