Skande ( ka, სკანდე), sometimes known as Skanda (სკანდა), is a village in the Terjola Municipality, Imereti, Georgia. It is located in western part of the country, in the small river valley of Chkhari, part of the Kvirila River system, some 15 km northeast of the town of Terjola. Its population as of the 2014 census was 434. Skanda is home to a ruined fortress, which is the Scanda or Scandeis of the Eastern Roman authors of Late Antiquity and one of the strongholds contested between the Eastern Roman and Sasanian empires during their conflicts in Lazica. It maintained its importance as one of the key fortresses of Imereti down to the early 19th century. Imereti (Georgian: იმერეთი) is a region of Georgia situated in the central-western part of the republic along the middle and upper reaches of the Rioni River. Mirian Giorgadze
Mirian Giorgadze ( ka, მირიან გიორგაძე; born March 25, 1976 in Terjola) is a retired amateur Georgian Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's super heavyweight category. He represented his nation Georgia in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004), and nearly ended his sporting campaign with a blistering bronze medal effort at the 2005 European Championships in Varna, Bulgaria. Giorgadze also trained as part of the Greco-Roman wrestling team for Dynamo Tbilisi under his personal coach Vasha Kraveshvili. Giorgadze made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the men's super heavyweight division (130 kg). He lost two straight matches each to Sweden's Eddy Bengtsson and Belarus' Dmitry Debelka, who later claimed a bronze medal at the end of the tournament in the prelim pool, finishing last out of twenty wrestlers in the overall standings. Zestaponi
Zestafoni or Zestaponi ( ka, ზესტაფონი, tr, ) is the administrative center of Zestafoni District in Western Georgia. Zestafoni is the center of an ancient, historical part of Georgia – Margveti, which is a part of Imereti province. Zestafoni is the center of Margveti's Eparchy of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Zestafoni is situated in the furthest east of the Colchis Plateau, and is built on both banks of the Qvirila River. It is an important industrial center, with a large ferro-alloy plant processing manganese ore from nearby Chiatura. Zestafoni is in the Kolkheti lowlands, a semi-tropical region with relatively cold winters averaging in January and hot summers averaging in August.
