Teodoro Casiño
Teodoro "Teddy" Acevedo Casiño (, born 15 November 1968) is a Filipino activist, writer, and journalist. He was a member of the House of Representatives for Bayan Muna. Early life and career Born in Davao City to middle class parents, Casiño finished elementary education at the De La Salle University (DLSU) in 1982. He continued his high school studies at La Salle Green Hills, where his stint as a volunteer for the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) in the 1986 snap elections swept him into the politics of People Power via the EDSA Revolution. The EDSA experience, plus the stories about hunger in Negros, moved him to forego a DLSU scholarship to study agriculture in UP Los Baños, where he became an activist in his freshman year. He became editor in chief of the student paper, ''The UPLB Perspective'', from 1989–1991 even as he consistently made it to the honor roll. Kilusang Mayo Uno, or May First Labor Movement (KMU) is an independent labor center in the Philippines promoting militant unionism. It follows in the fighting tradition of the country's first trade union, the Lithographers' and Printers' Union of the Philippines ( es, Unión de Litógrafos e Impresores de Filipinas) in 1892 and the Congress of Labor Organizations (CLO) of the 1950s. KMU was created on May 1, 1980, during the Marcos regime to represent progressive workers‘ organisations in the country that advocated National Democratic struggle, especially the end of what was seen as American imperialism. In the 1990s the movement separated into several smaller organizations that focus on Philippine labor issues. Campaigns KMU advocates for an across-the-board-wage increase of ₱125. 2007 Philippine General Election
Legislative and local elections were held in the Philippines on May 14, 2007. Positions contested included half the seats in the Senate, which are elected for six-year terms, and all the seats in the House of Representatives, who were elected for three-year terms. The duly elected legislators of the 2007 elections joined the elected senators of the 2004 elections to comprise the 14th Congress of the Philippines. Most representatives won seats by being elected directly, the constituency being a geographical district of about 250,000 voters. There are 220 seats in total for all the legislative districts. Some representatives were elected under a party-list system. Only parties representing marginalized groups were allowed to run in the party-list election.
