State Route 431 (SR 431) is a secondary state highway in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Route description SR 431 travels southeast to northwest from just southeast of Martin in Weakley County to just east of Union City in Obion County. SR 431 is known in Martin west of the downtown area as University Avenue. The campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin is located along University Avenue, which divides it into the main campus area and the agriculture campus, where the football stadium, ROTC, and the rodeo pavilion are located. The Martin Walmart and the communities of Gardner and Midway are also located along this highway, as is an access road to Everett-Stewart Regional Airport. State Route 216 (SR 216) is a 17.7 mile long east-west state highway in West Tennessee, connecting Rives with Martin. Route description SR 216 begins as secondary highway in Obion County at an intersection with US 45W/ SR 5/ SR 21. It goes as Pleasant Hill Road to pass through the town of Rives before crossing the North Fork of the Obion River and becoming Rives Mount Pelia Road. Gardner (also Gardner Station, Gardners Station, Gardner's, Gardnersville) is a former town, now an unincorporated community, in western Weakley County, Tennessee, United States. History Gardner was founded in 1856 by its namesake, Colonel John Almus Gardner. He was the first president of the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad (a predecessor to the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway) and he owned the land on which the town was established. The town had a period of prosperity in the years after the Civil War. As the only significant town between Dresden and Union City, it was a business center for western Weakley County. It became an incorporated municipality in 1869, with lawyer William Parker Caldwell serving as its first mayor.
