Tennessee State Route 344
State Route 344 (SR 344) is a state highway in Hamblen and Hawkins counties, within the U.S. state of Tennessee. It connects US 11E in Russellville to US 11W west of Rogersville, Tennessee via SR 113. Route description SR 344 begins in Hamblen County in Russellville at a Y-Intersection with US 11E/ SR 34/ SR 66. The highway goes east along the original US 11E alignment through downtown (Old Russellville Pike) before leaving Russellville and turning northeastward through farmland before having an intersection and becoming concurrent with SR 113, where it crosses into Hawkins County. SR 113/SR 344 continue northeast to Saint Clair, where SR 344 splits off and goes north. It then passes through a couple of ridges before making a sharp right and crossing a bridge over Cherokee Lake/Holston River a short distance later. Russellville, Tennessee
Russellville is a census-designated place in Hamblen County, Tennessee, United States. Located along U.S. Route 11E-Tennessee State Route 34 (US 11E/SR 34), it is situated approximately at a midpoint between Whitesburg and Morristown. Demographics History Russellville was founded by George Russell in 1784. He had been granted a large tract of land in Greene County, North Carolina. During the American Civil War, Confederate Lieutenant General James Longstreet established a headquarters in the Nenney House in Russellville just after the Battle of Bean's Station in December 1863. His Confederate army used Russellville for their winter camp of 1863-64. The house still stands and has been converted into The General Longstreet Museum. Also during that winter, General Lafayette McLaws was in quarters at a house now called "Hayslope", a house that also still stands and was originally a tavern built by the early settlers. Hamblen County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 64,499. Its county seat and only incorporated city is Morristown. Hamblen County is the core county of the Morristown Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Hamblen, Jefferson, and Grainger counties. State Route 113 (SR 113) is a north-south state highway in East Tennessee. Route description Jefferson County SR 113 begins as a 2-lane highway in Jefferson County east of Dandridge at an intersection with US 25W/US 70/ SR 9. It then heads north and immediately has an interchange with I-40 (Exit 424). It then parallels Douglas Lake for a couple of miles before curving to the north, where it has an intersection with Nina Road, a major county road providing access to Baneberry. The highway then continues north through farmland to White Pine, where it has an intersection with SR 341. State Route 34 (SR 34) is a state highway located in East Tennessee. The route traverses several cities through eight counties from the Knoxville area to the North Carolina state line via Greeneville and Bristol. The portion from Carter to Bristol is concurrent with U.S. Route 11E (US 11E) while the portion from Bristol to North Carolina is concurrent with US 421.
