State Route 290 (SR 290) is a state highway in Jackson and Putnam counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It connects SR 53 northeast of Granville to SR 135 in Cookeville via SR 56 and Bloomington Springs. Route description SR 290 begins in Jackson County at an intersection on SR 53 northeast of Granville and southwest of Gainesboro. SR 290 then travels southeast through rural and mountainous terrain for the next several miles, where it is very curvy and passes through Nameless, before having a concurrency with SR 56 in Bloomington Springs. Granville, Tennessee
Granville is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Tennessee, United States. Granville was the birthplace of U.S. Senator Albert Gore, Sr., father of former Vice-President Al Gore. Granville is surrounded by the Cordell Hull Lake on three sides. When the Cordell Hull Dam was constructed in the early 1970s, much of the town's farmland was destroyed, resulting in the town becoming a "ghost town." A museum of local history, the Granville Museum, provides exhibits and interpretive displays on the community's past. The museum also sponsors festivals and other special events. The museum's resources document the lives of numerous families active in the years before and during World War I. Resources include census records and the Sutton Store's ledgers. The Granville community plays host to three major annual festivals. Gainesboro is a town in Jackson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 920 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Jackson County. Gainesboro is part of the Cookeville, Tennessee Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The Gainesboro vicinity was a popular destination for long hunters as early as the 1770s, as natural salt licks drew rich game to the area. In the 1790s, Avery's Trace passed nearby, with travellers along the road lodging at Fort Blount about 10 miles to the west. Gainesboro was named after General Edmund Pendleton Gaines (1777–1849). Cummins Falls State Park
Cummins Falls State Park is a state park located northwest of Cookeville in Jackson County in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Its namesake, Cummins Falls, is a waterfall, which is located on the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River. The park was purchased and created by the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation in 2011. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. State Route 56 (SR 56) is a state highway that runs south to north in Middle Tennessee, from the Alabama state line near Sherwood to the Kentucky state line near Red Boiling Springs. SR 56 is secondary south of Sewanee. It is primary (but unsigned) along US 41A and US 41 between Sewanee and Tracy City.
