Tegwen Perkins
Tegwen Matthews ( Perkins, formerly Thomas (1979–1987), born 2 October 1955) is a Welsh amateur golfer. She played in four successive Curtis Cup matches from 1974 to 1980, the first Welsh woman to compete in the event. Golf career Matthews won the Welsh Girls’ Championship in 1970 at the age of 14, beating Pamela Light 3&1 in the 18-hole final. She also reached the final in 1973, losing to Vicki Rawlings at the 19th hole. She competed for Wales in the Girls Home Internationals from 1970 to 1973 but missed the 1974 event at Dunbar as she was returning from the Curtis Cup match in America. She returned in time to play in the Girls Amateur Championship the following week, reaching the final, but losing by one hole to Ruth Barry. Matthews's first important win was as a 17-year-old, in the 1973 Wills Women's International Match Play at Wentworth, where she beat Prue Riddiford in the 36-hole final. 1973 European Ladies' Team Championship
The 1973 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 5–8 July at Royal Golf Club de Belgique, 7 kilometres south-east of the city center of Brussels, Belgium. It was the eighth women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Format All participating teams, allowed to have six players, played one qualification round of stroke-play with five players, counted the four best scores for each team. The six best teams formed flight A, in knock-out match-play over the next three days. The teams were seeded based on their positions after the stroke play. The teams place first and second were directly qualified for the semi-finals. Espirito Santo Trophy
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women's Amateur Team Championships) is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. The inaugural event was held in 1964. It was instituted by the French Golf Federation in an agreement with the United States Golf Association. It was planned by Lally Segard, at the time known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur, from France and Mrs. Henri Prunaret from America. Segard also asked her friends Ricardo and Silvia Espirito Santo, from Portugal, to donate a trophy for the event, which they did. They had originally bought the golden cup, which had belonged to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, for an international Portuguese event that was not played anymore. The 38th Curtis Cup Match was played from June 6 to 8, 2014 at St. Louis Country Club in Ladue, Missouri. The United States won 13 to 7. Format The contest was a three-day competition, with three fourball and three foursomes matches on each of the first two days, and eight singles matches on the final day, a total of 20 points. Each of the 20 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. European Ladies' Team Championship
The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay. Women's Home Internationals
The Women's Home Internationals were an amateur team golf championship for women contested between the four Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, where Ireland was represented by the whole island of Ireland on an All-Ireland basis. After the Ladies' Golf Union, the former governing body for women's golf in Great Britain and Ireland, merged into The R&A in 2016, The R&A took over organisation of the event. The match was played annually and the venue cycled between the four nations. In 2022 the match was replaced by a combined Women's and Men's Home Internationals. The event started in 1905 when Mr. T. The Astor Trophy is a women's team golf tournament between teams of amateurs golfers from Great Britain and Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. It has been played every four years since 1959. From its foundation until 2007 it was called the Commonwealth Trophy. South Africa did not compete from 1963 to 1991.
