Teddy Leighton
John Edward Leighton (26 March 1865 – 15 April 1944) was an English amateur footballer who played on the wing for Nottingham Forest and the Corinthians in the 1880s and made one appearance for England in 1886. Football career Leighton was born in Nottingham and after playing schoolboy and junior football in the town, he joined Nottingham Forest in 1884. He joined Forest prior to the advent of the Football League and was thus restricted to friendly and cup matches. Leighton scored a goal in the 4–1 victory over local rivals, Notts Olympic in the second round of the FA Cup in November 1885; the following year he scored twice against Grimsby Town in the second round, repeating this in November 1887 against Mellors Ltd. His England call-up came on 13 March 1886 when, along with his Nottingham Forest teammate Tinsley Lindley, he was one of eight new caps selected to play against Ireland at Ballynafeigh Park, Belfast. Tinsley Lindley
Dr. Tinsley Lindley OBE (27 October 1865 – 31 March 1940) was an English footballer. He was described as "an ideal centre forward". He scored three goals in his debut aged 16 for Nottingham Forest. He was an amateur who did not wear football boots but scored 14 goals for England in 13 internationals Lindley was given an O.B.E. in January 1918 for his work during World War I and in 1935 he was also awarded the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal.Notts County match programme 8 March 2014 pg. 63 On retirement from football, Lindley turned his attention to his law practice, having been called to the Bar in 1899 while still playing. The City Ground is a football stadium in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England, on the banks of the River Trent. It has been home to Nottingham Forest Football Club since 1898 and has a capacity of 30,445. Benjamin Ward Spilsbury (1 August 1864 – 15 August 1938) was an English international footballer. Early life He was born at Findern, Derbyshire, son of the Reverend Benjamin Ward. Spilsbury was an all-round athlete at Rossall School and later Repton School, where he played football, cricket and athletics. At Repton he was school champion 4 times in long jump, and in 1882 he broke the school record. He enrolled at Jesus College in Cambridge, and he played football for Cambridge University from 1884 to 1887. In his last year at the university, he was also captain of the team. Career He made his debut for the international team against Ireland on 28 February 1885. Spilsbury played three games for England, and scored five goals. The 1887–88 Football Association Challenge Cup was the 17th staging of the FA Cup, England's oldest Association football, football tournament.
