Tectura Palacea
''Tectura palacea'', common names the surfgrass limpet or chaffy limpet, also spelled chaffey limpet, is a species of small sea snail, a true limpet, a marine (ocean), marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lottiidae. The shell of this small limpet is about 6–10 mm in length and 2–3 mm in width. The shell dimensions are narrow to correspond with the limpet's habitat: the narrow blades of surfgrasses in the genus ''Phyllospadix'', found at low tide levels. This species occurs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, on the coast of North America, from Vancouver Island, British Columbia to northern Baja California, Mexico.McLean J. H. (1978) ''Marine Shells of Southern California''. Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County Museum, Science Series 24, Revised Edition: 1-104. Feeding habits These small limpets graze on the film of microscopic algae that covers the leaf blades of the marine plant ''Phyllospadix''. As can be seen in the accompanying photos, the limpet scrapes ...

Tectura Virginea
''Tectura virginea'' is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lottiidae, one of the families of true limpets. It is commonly known as the white tortoiseshell limpet. Description ''T. virginea'' is rather smaller than '' Testudinalia testudinalis'', the tortoiseshell limpet, growing to 15mm in length with a height of 6mm. The shell is white with purplish bands radiating from the apex. which is tilted forward and about a third of the way along the shell. The flesh is creamy coloured or pale pink. The broad foot is oval and the head bears a pair of long tentacles with tiny black eyes located near their base. Distribution and habitat The white tortoiseshell limpet is found on the north west coasts of Europe from Norway south to the Mediterranean Sea including the North Sea. It lives in the neritic zone below low water mark down to a depth of about one hundred metres. It favours rock pools and smooth rock covered with encrusting red algae s ...

Phyllospadix
''Phyllospadix'', surfgrass, is a genus of seagrass, a flowering plant in the family Zosteraceae, described as a genus in 1840. ''Phyllospadix'' grows in marine waters along the coasts of the temperate North Pacific. It is one of the seagrass genera that can perform completely submerged pollination. Iothia Emarginuloides
''Iothia emarginuloides'' is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lepetidae, one of the families of true limpets. This species was previously known as ''Iothia coppingeri''. Taxonomy The type specimens of ''I. emarginuloides'' (Philippi, 1868) and ''I. coppingeri'' (E.A. Smith, 1881) are very similar in morphology, and were collected only apart; as long ago as 1908 this led to the recognition that they were probably the same species. Despite this, they continued to be treated as two separate species until 2011, when Nakano et al. researched the genus and brought them into synonymy. ''I. emarginuloides'' was described before ''I. coppingeri'', so by the rules of zoological nomenclature, the earlier name took priority. Description ''I. emarginuloides'' is a small, broadly ovate, cap-shaped limpet, with a length of about and width of . The apex of the shell is towards the anterior end, and is rather acute, but does not curl over. The ...

''Testudinalia testudinalis'', common name the common tortoise limpet, is a species of sea snail, a true limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lottiidae, one of the families of true limpets. It is commonly known as the plant limpet or tortoiseshell limpet. Description ''T. testudinalis'' has a low domed shell, oval in outline. It can grow to up to 30 x 24 x 10 mm but typically is about half this size. The apex is towards the anterior of the shell and fine ridges radiate from it. The shell is banded with brown and white. The mantle is the part of the body wall immediately under the shell and at the edges it is curled round to form a collar. The foot is broad and oval. The head bears two sensory tentacles with a tiny black eye at the base of each. Distribution and habitat ''T. testudinalis'' occurs in northern regions of both the Pacific and Northwest Atlantic Oceans and in European waters.
