Team New Zealand Roller Derby is the New Zealand national women's flat track roller derby team. It was founded in 2011 to compete in the inaugural Roller Derby World Cup. There was a brief name change to Aotearoa Roller Derby for the 2018 Roller Derby World Cup but the league changed back to its original name in October 2020. 2011 World Cup campaign Roller Derby Team New Zealand competed in the inaugural Roller Derby World Cup, held 1–4 December 2011 in Toronto, Canada. Selection and build-up Roller derby skaters throughout New Zealand were invited to try out for places in the training squad. The squad met monthly to train in Hamilton. Final selections for the team to travel to Toronto for the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup were released after a final training and selection bout between the "Probables" and the "Possibles" in New Plymouth in conjunction with the AoteaRUMBLE roller derby training retreat. The Roller Derby World Cup is an international women's roller derby tournament formerly organized by ''Blood & Thunder magazine'', and currently organized by the Roller Derby World Cup Committee. Teams of amateur skaters from around the world compete for their respective nations. History The inaugural 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and was held December 1 through 4, 2011, at The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was won by Team USA, who beat Team Canada by a score of 336 points to 33 in the final. Live online coverage of the event was broadcast on the ''Derby News Network''. Wales is one of six countries to have competed in every Commonwealth Games since 1930, the others being Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand and Scotland. Richter City Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Wellington, New Zealand. Founded in 2007, the league currently consists of three intraleague teams, and two interleague teams. The league's colours are orange and purple. The Hellmilton Roller Ghouls are a Roller Derby league located in the central North Island of New Zealand. Independently run by its members, the Hellmilton Roller Ghouls currently have one team for 2015, Raggedy Angst. History "Caught in the worldwide whirlwind of roller derby was Miss Metal Militia, who began her training in Vancouver, Canada with Terminal City Rollergirls, after skating artistically as a child.
