Hellmilton Roller Ghouls
The Hellmilton Roller Ghouls are a Roller Derby league located in the central North Island of New Zealand. Independently run by its members, the Hellmilton Roller Ghouls currently have one team for 2015, Raggedy Angst. History "Caught in the worldwide whirlwind of roller derby was Miss Metal Militia, who began her training in Vancouver, Canada with Terminal City Rollergirls, after skating artistically as a child. Upon her return to Hamilton, New Zealand, she decided to start a league at home." For the past five years the Hellmilton Roller Ghouls have hosted representatives from leagues all over New Zealand at the annual International Tattoo and Art Expo. Hamilton ( mi, Kirikiriroa) is an inland city in the North Island of New Zealand. Located on the banks of the Waikato River, it is the seat and most populous city of the Waikato region. Roller derby is a roller skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. Game play consists of a series of short scrimmages (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who uniquely wears a star on the helmet) and four blockers to skate counter-clockwise around a track. Terminal City Roller Derby (TCRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Vancouver. Founded in January 2006 as Terminal City Rollergirls, TCRD is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization Terminal City was founded in 2006 by Michelle "Micki Mercury" Lamoureux, who was inspired by childhood memories of watching roller derby on television and recruited initial members with a craigslist ad. Mount Maunganui (, ) is a major residential, commercial and industrial suburb of the Tauranga metropolitan area, located on a peninsula to the north-east of Tauranga's city centre. Team New Zealand Roller Derby is the New Zealand national women's flat track roller derby team. It was founded in 2011 to compete in the inaugural Roller Derby World Cup. The Roller Derby World Cup is an international women's roller derby tournament formerly organized by ''Blood & Thunder magazine'', and currently organized by the Roller Derby World Cup Committee. Teams of amateur skaters from around the world compete for their respective nations. History The inaugural 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and was held December 1 through 4, 2011, at The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was won by Team USA, who beat Team Canada by a score of 336 points to 33 in the final. Live online coverage of the event was broadcast on the ''Derby News Network''.
