Tatra T5B6
The Tatra T5B6 was an experimental tramcar built in 1976 by ÄŒKD Tatra. History Having enjoyed widespread success throughout the Soviet Union with its earlier products, Tatra were keen to develop a new, modernised generation of tramcars for its clients. After initial runs on test-track at the Tatra factory, two prototypes were delivered to Most for evaluation, where they spent a year. The transport authorities in Most were however unwilling to pay a higher price for the T5B6 than they would otherwise have paid for the T3SU and no more orders were placed. Tatra T5C5
The Tatra T5C5 is a single-car tram built by ÄŒKD Tatra in Prague in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1978, two prototypes were tested in Prague and Budapest. They differed in many ways to earlier Tatra products, most notably that the vehicle was controlled by a hand lever rather than a foot pedal. Between 1978 and 1984, 322 vehicles were supplied to Budapest and, as of September 2020, all are in service with 2 of them being used exclusively for driver training purposes. Modernizations Between 2002 and 2004 80 T5C5 units were extensively refurbished : the old drive system (resistor and series-parallel control) was replaced by chopper control using IGBT transistors. These trams have been renamed as "T5C5K". These units have been further modernized from 2009, their current type name is T5C5K2. ČKD (Českomoravská Kolben-Daněk) () was one of the largest engineering companies in the former Czechoslovakia and today's Czech Republic. It is famous for the Tatra T3, a tramcar that sold 13,991 units worldwide. History ČKD was formed in 1927 from the merger of two smaller companies, Českomoravská-Kolben (founded 1896, produced machinery for hydro dams) and Breitfeld-Daněk (founded 1854, produced machinery for mines and food industry). From 1927 until 1929 ČKD's products included a motorcycle designed by Jaroslav František Koch. The Tatra T5A5 was an experimental tramcar developed in 1972 by ÄŒKD Tatra in Prague.
