Tarbet ( gd, An Tairbeart or ) is a place on the south shore of Loch Nevis in Scotland, about east of Mallaig. The name ' tarbet' (or 'tarbert') refers to a portage or isthmus, in this case it is between Loch Nevis and Loch Morar. Tarbet has a permanent population of 6. Tarbet is not connected to any roads, and access is by a path from Bracorina, to the east of Morar. Ross, Skye and Lochaber is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (Westminster). It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The constituency covers a central portion of the Highland council area, and at , it covers the largest area of any House of Commons constituency in Britain. Until the 2015 general election, it was represented by former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy. Ardgour
Ardgour () (, meaning ''Height of the goats'') is an area of the Scottish Highlands on the western shore of Loch Linnhe. It lies north of the district of Morvern and east of the district of Sunart. Administratively it is now part of the ward management area of Lochaber, in Highland council area. It forms part of the traditional shire and current registration county of Argyll. The modern term Ardgour, together with Kingairloch, is applied to a large area of countryside around the village, from the Glensanda Superquarry, Kingairloch and Kilmalieu in the south and west (bordering Morvern and Sunart districts), up to Conaglen, Stroncreggan, Treslaig, Camasnagaul, Achaphubuil, Blaich, Duisky, Garvan and Drumfin in the north (bordering Glenfinnan). Highland ( gd, A' Ghàidhealtachd, ; sco, Hieland) is a council area in the Scottish Highlands and is the largest local government area in the United Kingdom. It was the 7th most populous council area in Scotland at the 2011 census. It shares borders with the council areas of Aberdeenshire, Argyll and Bute, Moray and Perth and Kinross. Loch Nevis (Scottish Gaelic: ''Loch Nibheis'') is a sea loch in Lochaber on the west coast of Scotland. Mallaig
Mallaig (; gd, Malaig derived from Old Norse , meaning sand dune bay) is a port in Lochaber, on the west coast of the Highlands of Scotland. The local railway station, Mallaig, is the terminus of the West Highland railway line (Fort William and Mallaig branch) and the town is linked to Fort William by the A830 road – the "Road to the Isles". Tarbert ( gd, An Tairbeart) is a place name in Scotland and Ireland. Places named Tarbert are characterised by a narrow strip of land, or isthmus. This can be where two lochs nearly meet, or a causeway out to an island. Etymology All placenames that variously show up as ''tarbert'', ''tarbat'' or ''tarbet'' in their anglicised form derive from either the Irish or Scottish Gaelic ''an tairbeart'', commonly translated as "the isthmus" today. Both these words derive from two Old Irish elements, ''tar'' "across" and a nominalised form of the verb ''ber'' "to carry". The in ''tar'' was assimilated to as a result of being next to the historically palatal in Old Irish, causing the change in spelling from ''tar'' to ''tair-''.
