''For the defunct punk rock record label, see: Tarantulas Records'' Tarantula Records was created by Jamaican recording artist ''Tanya Stephens'' and her life partner Andrew Henton. The label was set up because Tanya desired more freedom over her music and lyrics. Henton makes the beats out of his home and she records at hers. Since being founded in 2004, the label has released three albums. VP Records handled distribution for albums ''Gangsta Blues'' and '' Rebelution''. Tarantulas Records
Tarantulas Records was a punk rock record label established in 2002. It was generally owned by the band The Explosion and run by their manager Rama Mayo (also of the label Big Wheel Recreation) as well as other members of bands involved in the label, and some releases were distributed by The Platform Group/Fontana. The most prominent and active bands amongst the Tarantulas (besides the Explosion) were The Distillers, The Bronx, The Static Age, and Darker My Love. The label/collective ceased to be in 2005/2006 due to disagreements with distributor The Platform Group and other tensions. VP Records is an independent Caribbean-owned record label in Queens, New York (state), New York. The label is known for releasing music by notable artists in reggae, dancehall and Soca music, soca. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, " Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Dancehall
Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s. ''Gangsta Blues'' is the fifth studio album by Jamaican recording artist Tanya Stephens. This album was probably the most politically driven album with tracks like "What a Day", "The Other Cheek" and "Sound of My Tears". The album also has a lovers rock feel to it (as is common in Tanya's albums) with songs such as "Good Ride" and "It's a Pity" (with the latter giving her international success). Background Recording for the album took place in-between 2001 and 2004. It was recorded across various recording studios in Jamaica and America. Infallible (album)
Infallible is the 7th studio album released by Jamaican recording artist Tanya Stephens. This album was unique in the sense that it was a free download to all her fans. Tanya released the album for free stating "Infallible by Tanya Stephens! Feel free to forward the link to as many people as you wish. The album is completely free of cost. Enjoy!!" Andrew Henton, Tanya's life partner and co-founder of Tarantula Records stated the reason the album was a free download was because Tanya wanted to do something special for her fans, the major reason being that there's a recession going on, and things are already hard on everyone, he then stated that Tanya believes that when she gives an album to a major label (e.g. VP Records), technically she's giving it away for free anyway, so she would much rather give it directly to the fans.
