Tanner Hill Estate
Tanner Hill Estate () was a rental housing estate for low-income families on Tanner Road, North Point, Hong Kong, developed by the Hong Kong Housing Society. Background The estate consisted of two blocks, Yellow Stork House and Pine Tree House, which were built in 1960 and 1961 respectively. It was originally called Shu Kuk Street Government Low Cost Housing Estate (), but it was later renamed to Tanner Hill Estate to avoid confusion with North Point Estate. In 1996, the Hong Kong Housing Society announced the redevelopment plan of Tanner Hill Estate. Tanner Hill Estate was demolished in the nineties. Initially, the Hong Kong Housing Society planned to build housing for sale under the Home Ownership Scheme. However, the government temporarily called off the scheme in 2000 and the project was paused. The Hong Kong Housing Society or Housing Society for short, is the second largest public housing provider in Hong Kong (the first being the Hong Kong Housing Authority). North Point is a mixed-use urban area in the Eastern District, Hong Kong, Eastern District of Hong Kong. Located in the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island, the area is named after a cape between Tin Hau, Hong Kong, Causeway Bay and Tsat Tsz Mui that projects toward Kowloon Bay. North Point Estate () was a public housing estate at the harbour front of North Point, Hong Kong near North Point Ferry Pier and its bus terminus, approaching Victoria Harbour. It was the largest public housing estate in the Eastern District. It was the second public housing estate built by the Hong Kong Housing Authority and enjoyed a reputation as one of the most impressive construction schemes in Asia and as a public housing estate in one of the most "luxurious" areas on Hong Kong Island. History North Point Estate was developed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority and completed in 1957. It comprised seven 11-storey blocks with a total of 1,956 flats. Home Ownership Scheme
The Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) is a subsidised-sale public housing programme managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. It was instituted in the late 1970s as part of the government policy for public housing with two aims – to encourage better-off tenants of rental flats to vacate those flats for re-allocation to families in greater housing need; and also to provide an opportunity for home ownership to families unable to afford to buy in the private sector. Under the scheme, the government sells flats to eligible public housing tenants and to lower-income residents at prices below the market level, with discounts usually between 30 and 40 per cent. Joyous Living senior housing project () is a scheme being planned and developed by the non-governmental and nonprofit Hong Kong Housing Society, the second largest public housing provider in Hong Kong. The project is targeting wealthy retired individuals, and fills up market gap for one-stop worry free retirement living for the middle class but has attracted criticism for its high price. Two senior housing sites are located in Hong Kong: Tanner Hill Project and Wetland Park Road Project, which will provide around 1,600 non-subsidized independent living for middle class seniors in Hong Kong.
