''Tangara '' is a large genus of birds of the tanager family. It includes 27 species. All are from the Neotropics, and while most are fairly widespread, some have small distributions and are threatened. They are fairly small, ranging in size from . This genus includes some of the most spectacularly colored birds of the world. Taxonomy and species list The genus ''Tangara'' was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760 with the paradise tanager (''Tangara chilensis'') as the type species. The name means "dancer" in the extinct Tupi language. The genus formerly included additional species. A molecular phylogenetic study published in 2014 found that many of the members of ''Thraupis'' was embedded within ''Tangara''. In the reorganization to create monophyletic genera, rather than merging ''Thraupis'' into ''Tangara'' to create an unusually large genus with around 58 species, taxonomists chose to split off species from ''Tangara'' into four other genera. The Aerotec A-132 Tangará (originally the Uirapuru II) was a Brazilian military trainer aircraft developed from the A-122 Uirapuru of the 1960s. Design and development The A-132 Tangará was developed in response to a request from the Brazilian Air Force. Compared to its predecessor, the Uirapuru II had a longer fuselage, greater wingspan, larger fin, more powerful engine, and a redesigned, flat-sided fuselage. A similar aircraft with a less powerful engine was planned for the civil market. The prototype first flew on 26 February 1981. The Air Force originally had the intention to order 100 units but after a decision that the primary trainer should have tandem seats, the project was abandoned. The only orders came from the Bolivian Air Force, which ordered 6 units in 1986 and flew them until 1992. The T sets, also referred to as the Tangara trains, are a class of electric multiple units that currently operate on the Sydney Trains network. Built by A Goninan & Co, the sets entered service between 1988 and 1995, initially under the State Rail Authority and later CityRail. The T sets were built as "third-generation" trains for Sydney's rail fleet, coinciding with the final withdrawals of the "Red Rattler" sets from service in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Tangaras were initially built as two classes; the long-distance G sets and the suburban T sets, before being merged after successive refurbishments.
