Tang Chuan
Tang Chuan (; Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: ''Thông Chhon''; 19 April 1952 – 13 March 2022) was a Taiwanese actor. Tang was raised in the Hakka community of Nanzhuang, Miaoli. He began his acting career in 1972, after graduating from an acting program. He received the Golden Bell Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film in 2008 and won the Golden Bell Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film. In 2021, Tang was nominated for a second Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film Award. He sought medical treatment in March 2021, after two strokes and a subsequent lung infection. Pha̍k-fa-sṳ
Pha̍k-fa-sṳ is an orthography similar to Pe̍h-ōe-jī and used to write Hakka, a variety of Chinese. Hakka is a whole branch of Chinese, and Hakka dialects are not necessarily mutually intelligible with each other, considering the large geographical region. This article discusses a specific variety of Hakka. The orthography was invented by the Presbyterian church in the 19th century. The Hakka New Testament published in 1924 is written in this system. Writing system Pha̍k-fa-sṳ uses a modified Latin alphabet (an additional double-dotted ṳ for the close central unrounded vowel //) and some diacritics for tones. A single hyphen is added to indicate a compound. Nanzhuang Township is a rural township in Miaoli County, Taiwan. Geography It has a population total of 10,381 (January 2017) and an area of . Demographics The population consists of Hakkas, Hoklos and the indigenous Saisiyat and Atayal people. Miaoli City (Wade–Giles: ''Miao²-li⁴''; Hakka PFS: ''Mèu-li̍t-sṳ''; Hokkien POJ: ''Biâu-le̍k-chhī'' or ''Miâu-le̍k-chhī'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Miaoli County, Taiwan. Miaoli has a relatively high percentage of Hakka people.
