Tanbark Trail
The Tanbark Trail is an hiking trail in Allegheny National Forest in northwestern Pennsylvania, which is usually described as a spur of the North Country Trail. It is known for visiting some of the least disturbed areas of the National Forest, as well as several large rock formations and scenic glens along small streams. Route At its southern end, the Tanbark Trail departs from the North Country Trail near that trail's crossing of Forest Road 116 in southern Warren County. A short segment at the southern end of the trail is within Hickory Creek Wilderness. Trending to the northwest, the Tanbark Trail skirts Hearts Content Scenic Area and can be accessed from that attraction's day-hiking trails. Hearts Content Scenic Area
Hearts Content National Scenic Area is a tract of old-growth forest in Warren County, northwestern Pennsylvania. It represents one of the few remaining old-growth forests in the northeastern United States that contain white pine. The area is protected as a National Scenic Area within the Allegheny National Forest. History While many of the region's forests were being clear-cut, the Wheeler and Dusenbury Lumber Company held the tract of old-growth forest at Heart's Content from 1897 until 1922, when they deeded it to the United States Forest Service. In 1934, the Chief of the Forest Service recognized the old-growth stand and of surrounding land as a National Scenic Area. The forest became a National Natural Landmark in 1973. A trail, also known as a path or track, is an unpaved lane or small road usually passing through a natural area. Allegheny National Forest
The Allegheny National Forest is a National Forest in Northwestern Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The forest covers of land. North Country Trail
The North Country National Scenic Trail, generally known as the North Country Trail or simply the NCT, is a footpath stretching over from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota in the United States; connecting both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail with the Lewis and Clark Trail. The Allegheny National Recreation Area is a national recreation area of the United States, located on the Allegheny Plateau in northwestern Pennsylvania.
