Tan Kim Her
Tan Kim Her (, born November 11, 1971) is a former Malaysian badminton player and coach. He is currently Japan's men's doubles coach. Career Kim Her competed in badminton at the 1996 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with Soo Beng Kiang. They defeated the no.3 seeds Rudy Gunawan and Bambang Suprianto of Indonesia in the last 16. In the semi-final, Kim Her and Beng Kiang lost to the eventual gold medallist, Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja of Indonesia. In the bronze medal match, the duo lost hard fought match also to the Indonesian pair, Antonius Ariantho/Denny Kantono. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. 1997 Badminton Asia Cup
The 1997 Badminton Asia Cup; officially called as ''Sampoerna (King) Asia Cup 1997'' was the 1st edition of the Badminton Asia Cup. It was held in Istora Senayan tennis indoor stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia from 19 February to 23 February with total prize money of 150,000 US Dollars. Tournament consisted of total of three matches in every team encounter, with format of Men's singles, Men's doubles and a second Men's singles match. Antonius Ariantho
S. Antonius Budi Ariantho (born 3 October 1973) is a retired Indonesian badminton player who specialized in men's doubles. During the 1990s he shared numerous international titles with his regular partner Denny Kantono including the French (1993); Hong Kong (1993); Denmark (1994); Thailand (1994); Chinese Taipei (1995, 1996); and Indonesia (1996) Opens; and the (now defunct) Badminton World Cup (1996) and World Badminton Grand Prix (1998) events. They were runners-up at the prestigious All-England Open in 1995, and bronze medalists at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. 1996 Olympics Ariantho competed in badminton at the 1996 Summer Olympics in men's doubles, with Denny Kantono, and won a bronze medal. Ricky Subagja
Ricky Subagja (born 27 January 1971) is a former Indonesian badminton player. He was rated among the greatest doubles specialists in the sport's history. Career In 1993 the fast moving, faster hitting Subagja won men's doubles at the then biennial IBF World Championships in Birmingham, England with fellow countryman Rudy Gunawan. However, Subagja's regular partner for most of the 90s was another fellow countryman, the equally fast and hard-hitting Rexy Mainaky, and they formed the most successful team of the decade. Subagja and Mainaky won more than thirty international titles together, including all of badminton's major championships at least once. Rexy Mainaky
Rexy Ronald Mainaky (born 9 March 1968) is a former men's doubles badminton world champion from Indonesia who is often simply known as Rexy. He won the men's doubles Olympic gold medal in 1996 with Ricky Subagja. As of October 2021, he was appointed as the new deputy coaching director of the Badminton Association of Malaysia. Career During the 1990s Mainaky and fellow countryman Ricky Subagja formed the most internationally successful team of the decade. Bambang Suprianto
Bambang Suprianto (born 20 February 1969) is a retired badminton player from Indonesia. Career A durable all around player who won singles at the Singapore Open in 1991, Suprianto's greatest success came in doubles events. In the mid-1990s he and fellow countryman Rudy Gunawan formed one of the world's leading men's doubles teams. They won several top tier international titles, including the 1994 All-England Championship, but could not quite keep pace with countrymen Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja who became the decade's most successful pair. Suprianto was a member of Indonesia's world champion Thomas Cup (men's international) teams in 1994, 1996 and 2002. Rudy Gunawan
Rudy Gunawan (; born 31 December 1966) is a former Indonesian badminton player who played between 1980s and 1990s. He is arguably one of the best doubles players ever to play for Indonesia. Rudy Gunawan won various international championships, both in the men's doubles and mixed doubles events. He has paired up with players such as Eddy Hartono, Rosiana Tendean, Bambang Suprianto, and Ricky Subagja. He was on the Thomas Cup team of Indonesia five times (1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996) but only won gold in 1994 and 1996. In addition, he helped strengthen the Indonesian team in the race for 1989 Sudirman Cup. Rudy twice competed in the Summer Olympics. Soo Beng Kiang (, born 19 March 1968) is a former badminton player from Malaysia. Career He had played with different pairs such as Cheah Soon Kit (1990–1994) and Tan Kim Her (1995-1996).
