Tampa Bay Sun FC is a future professional women's soccer team based in Tampa, Florida, United States. It will be a member of the USL Super League, a new Division I league operated by the United Soccer League, and is scheduled to debut in 2024. Sun FC is owned by real estate developer and investor Darryl Shaw, Bern's Steak House owner David Laxer, and former BluePearl executive Jeff Fox. History Establishment The Tampa Bay area was named as one of the initial USL Super League markets on May 16, 2023. On July 15, 2023, South Florida Bulls women's soccer head coach Denise Schilte-Brown was named as Sun's first-ever head coach, and former FIFA referee Christina Unkel was named as club president. Inaugural Season Longtime University of South Florida women's soccer coach, Denise Schilte-Brown was announced as Tampa's head coach in July 2023. Riverfront Stadium (Tampa)
The Riverfront Stadium (Tampa) is a soccer stadium in Tampa, Florida. History In 2023, it was announced that USL Super League team Tampa Bay Sun FC would play their first few seasons on the campus of Howard W. Blake High School. Plans were also revealed to bring the stadium's capacity from 1,800 up to 5,000. The renovations began in February 2024 are were completed in August ahead of the club's 2024–25 Tampa Bay Sun FC season, inaugural season. The first match at the stadium was a closed-doors friendly between Tampa Bay Sun and South Florida Bulls women's soccer, USF. The first competitive match took place on August 18, 2024 between the Sun and Dallas Trinity FC. Tenants Tampa Bay Sun FC will play their first few seasons at the stadium while their permanent home is constructed. Additionally, the Blake High School soccer and football teams play at the stadium. Kaylan Jenna Marckese (born April 22, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Tampa Bay Sun FC in the USL Super League. College career Marckese played as first goalkeeper for the Florida Gators between 2015 and 2018. She was named to the SEC All-Tournament team in 2017 and 2018. Brooke Tatum Hendrix (born May 6, 1993) is an American soccer player who plays as a defender for Reading in the Women's Super League. College career Hendrix played college soccer at Southern Miss from 2011 to 2014.
