The Tampa Bay Bandits were a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida, The Bandits competed in the United States Football League (USFL) as a member club of the league's South division, prior to going on hiatus after the season. The team played their 2022 home games at Protective Stadium and Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, which also hosts the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers. History The Tampa Bay Bandits were one of eight teams that were officially announced as a USFL franchise on ''The Herd with Colin Cowherd'' on November 22, 2021. Protective Stadium
Protective Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium owned and operated by the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, U.S. Its naming rights are provided by the Protective Life company, which will pay $1 million per year for 15 years. The stadium replaced Legion Field as the home of the UAB Blazers football program. The Blazers played their first game in the stadium on October 2, 2021, and lost to Liberty 36–12. In December 2021, the stadium hosted the Super 7, the football championship games of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, as part of a three-year rotation with Bryant–Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and Jordan–Hare Stadium in Auburn that will run through at least 2032. Bob Saunders (American Football)
Bob Saunders is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator and running backs coach for the Memphis Showboats (2022) of the United States Football League (USFL). Saunders has served as an Offensive Assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, St. Louis Rams, and Cleveland Browns. He served two seasons as wide receivers coach in the United Football League with the Virginia Destroyers. In college football, he was Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kansas Wesleyan University and at Oberlin College as well as the quarterbacks coach at Washington University in St. Louis. Derrick Dillon (born October 28, 1995) is an American football wide receiver for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at LSU. Early life and high school Dillon attended Pine High School in Franklinton, Louisiana. Dillon initially committed to Florida but switched his commitment to LSU. College career Dillon redshirted his freshman year and played eight games, primarily on special teams as a redshirt freshman. The 2022 Tampa Bay Bandits season was the first and only season for the Tampa Bay Bandits as a professional American football franchise. They played as charter members of the United States Football League, one of eight teams to compete in the league for the 2022 season. Carnell Augustino Lake (born July 15, 1967) is an American former professional football player and coach who is the defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League (USFL). He was a safety and cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He is a member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. He was the cornerbacks coach for the UCLA Bruins under head coach Rick Neuheisel in 2009 before leaving after one season for family reasons. Thomas "Pepper" Johnson (born July 29, 1964) is an American football coach and former linebacker who is the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League (USFL).
