Tameside College
Tameside College is a further education college located in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England. The college offers a range of courses for students from Tameside and the surrounding area. These courses include NVQs, BTECs, Apprenticeships, Access courses the college also runs adult learning in the evenings. As well as its operations from its main site in Ashton-under-Lyne, the college also operates three Local Learning Centres in Ashton-under-Lyne, Droylsden and Hyde. Tameside College opened a brand new campus in Ashton Town Centre in 2018 as part of the rengeration work within the town. The new campus includes improved facilities and a larger space to accommodate future students. Tameside College also owns and operates Clarendon Sixth Form College also in Ashton-under-Lyne, offering A-Levels to local school-leavers. The College Principal is Jackie Moores. Hyde, Greater Manchester
Hyde is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, which had a population of 34,003 in 2011. Historically in Cheshire, it is northeast of Stockport, west of Glossop and east of Manchester. History Early history Newton Hall was present in the thirteenth century. The area formed a township of the parish of St Mary, Stockport. Its name is derived from the '' Hide'', a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to . In the late 18th century the area that was to become the town centre was no more than a cluster of houses known as Red Pump Street. Wm Morrison Supermarkets, trading as Morrisons, is the fifth largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom. David Potts (businessman)
David Tom Potts, CBE (born 18 March 1957) is a British corporate executive. Since March 2015, he has been the CEO of the British supermarket chain Morrisons, having succeeded Dalton Philips. Early life David Tom Potts was born on 18 March 1957 in Ashton-under-Lyne, and educated there at Hartshead County Secondary School. Potts got a summer job at Tesco in Ashton-under-Lyne as a general assistant, while waiting for his O-level results, having already worked in a greengrocers. He failed all five of his O-levels, and has stated, "My lack of success at school was probably to do with playing football all the time". Simply Red
Simply Red are a British soul and pop band formed in Manchester in 1985. The lead vocalist of the band is singer and songwriter Mick Hucknall, who, by the time the band initially disbanded in 2010, was the only original member left. Since the release of their debut studio album ''Picture Book'' (1985), they have had ten songs reach top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, including "Holding Back the Years" and "If You Don't Know Me by Now", both of which reached number one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Mick Hucknall
Michael James Hucknall (born 8 June 1960) is an English singer and songwriter. Hucknall achieved international fame in the 1980s as the lead singer and songwriter of the soul-influenced pop band Simply Red, with whom he enjoyed a 25-year career and sold over 50 million albums. Hucknall was described by Australian music magazine ''Rhythms'' as "one of the truly great blue-eyed soul singers", while '' Q'' credited him with "the most prodigious voice this side of Motown". The A-Level (Advanced Level) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education, as well as a school leaving qualification offered by the educational bodies in the United Kingdom and the educational authorities of British Crown dependencies to students completing secondary or pre-university education. Clarendon Sixth Form College
Clarendon Sixth Form College is a sixth-form college on Camp Street in Ashton-under-Lyne in the metropolitan borough of Tameside. In October 2015, the college relocated to a new building in Ashton town centre, from the previous site on Clarendon Road in Hyde. History Originally Hyde County Grammar School for Boys, this educational establishment closed its doors to 11-year-olds in 1979. When the last intake had progressed to the Sixth Form, the Sixth Form college was formally established. It was during this period that the now highly acclaimed "Dominion" rock band was formed by students at the college. Droylsden
Droylsden is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, east of Manchester city centre and west of Ashton-under-Lyne, with a population at the 2011 Census of 22,689. Within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire, in the mid-19th century Droylsden grew as a mill town on the Ashton canal. Beginning in the early 1930s, Droylsden's population expanded rapidly as it became a housing overflow area for neighbouring Manchester. Access Course
The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a U.K. qualification which prepares students — usually 19+ — for study as an undergraduate at university. The diploma is designed for people who would like to study in higher education but who left school without attaining a Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels. Once completed, the access diploma is held in the same standing as 3 A-Levels, allowing holders to study for BA degrees, BSc degrees, HNCs, HNDs, LLBs and other undergraduate degrees. Apprenticeship is a system for training a new generation of practitioners of a Tradesman, trade or profession with on-the-job training and often some accompanying study (classroom work and reading).
